Frequently Asked Questions
Can you plant a Tillandsia in soil? No, Tillandsias are epiphytic plants that don’t need soil — their roots only serve to attach to a support, while their silvery trichomes absorb water and nutrients directly from the air and misting.
What happens after a Tillandsia blooms? The mother plant gradually dies after a spectacular inflorescence but produces several offsets at its base — let them reach one-third the size of the mother plant before separating and displaying them separately on a support.

🌿 Velvety silver-gray-green rosette • ☀️ Bright indirect light • 💧 Misting 2-3×/week • 🌬️ No soil or pot • 🐾 Non-toxic
Native to the tropical forests and arid regions of Central and South America, Tillandsia 'King Xero' is an epiphytic plant that naturally grows without soil, attached to tree branches or rocks. Its broad gray-green leaves covered with fine silver hairs — trichomes — directly absorb water and nutrients from the air. 'King Xero' is a xerophytic variety with thick leaves that store water, and one of the most striking plants in our air plant collection and our original and rare plants. Delivered with its elegant black metal stand.
Which Tillandsia variety should you choose?
Our catalog offers several Tillandsia formats with very different shapes and presentations:
- Tillandsia 'King Xero' (this plant) — large velvety gray-green rosette with silver trichomes, delivered with a black metal stand (H23 cm | Ø12 cm). The most sculptural and decorative version.
- Tillandsia Super Silver XL — spectacular extra-large silver rosette (H15 cm | Ø20 cm). The largest and most silver version.
- Tillandsia — Metal ring — air plant displayed on a decorative ring. The most graphic version for wall hanging.
- Tillandsia cyanea — bromeliad with purple flowers on a pink bract, compact upright growth (H38 cm | Ø11 cm). The most flowering version.
- Set of 5 mixed Tillandsia — five assorted miniature air plants. The ideal version for starting a collection.
Light & placement
- Light: bright indirect light — also tolerates artificial light (LED lamp), making it one of the few plants suited to well-lit spaces without windows. Epiphytes depend on a good balance of light and humidity.
- Ideal: on its metal stand near a window, a bright shelf, a well-ventilated bathroom, desk or coffee table.
- Temperature: 15 to 30 °C — tolerates heat but is sensitive to frost.
- Air circulation: essential — good ventilation around the plant allows the leaves to dry properly after misting and prevents rot.
Watering & care
- Misting: 2 to 3 times a week with limescale-free water — spray generously until the leaves are thoroughly moist, then let them dry completely before the next misting. Limescale clogs the silver trichomes and prevents water absorption.
- Monthly bath: remove the plant from the stand, immerse it completely in room-temperature water for 20 to 30 minutes, shake off excess water and let it dry upside down for 2 to 3 hours before putting it back.
- Drying: absolutely essential — never put the plant back on its metal stand with stagnant water in the center of the rosette.
- Fertilizer: once a month in spring and summer, use highly diluted liquid orchid fertilizer (quarter-strength) sprayed onto the leaves.
Decorating ideas & plant pairings
- Air plant arrangement: pair it with a Tillandsia Super Silver XL and a Tillandsia on a metal ring — three air plants with very different sizes and shapes, zero substrate, zero pot, for a truly unique wall or shelf arrangement.
- On driftwood or bark: attach it to a piece of driftwood or a cork board with fine metal wire — this is the presentation closest to its natural habitat and the most organic, ideal for a minimalist plant wall.
- With its metal stand: placed directly on a shelf or coffee table, the included black metal stand highlights the gray-green rosette and allows immediate display without any additional accessories.
Verdeia tips
- Always let it dry completely between mistings: this is the absolute rule for Tillandsia — stagnant water in the center of the rosette causes irreversible rot within a few days, and good air circulation is just as important as watering itself.
- Wait for flowering and collect the offsets: the Tillandsia life cycle is fascinating — the mother plant dies after a spectacular inflorescence (red, pink or purple), but produces several offsets at its base that you can separate and display individually.
- Use only limescale-free water: hard tap water gradually clogs the silver trichomes, which are the plant's absorption organs — rainwater, filtered water or demineralized water are the only suitable long-term options.

Will the plant look exactly like the photo?
The photos accurately represent the variety and the stated size. Since each plant is unique, slight differences in shape, foliage, or color may occur — and that’s part of their charm.
What are the delivery times and conditions?
Shipping is done within 48 business hours, with tracked delivery within 2 to 5 business days. Delivery costs €5.60 — free for orders over €50. You will receive a tracking link as soon as the package is shipped.
What to do upon receiving my plant?
Open your package as soon as you receive it and carefully remove the plant from its packaging. Let it acclimate for 24 hours in its new environment before watering. If it has been slightly stressed during transport, it will recover its shape after one or two days in the light.
What to do if my plant arrives damaged?
Contact us within 48 hours with a photo of the issue. Our team will assess the situation and offer you the best solution: replacement, partial refund, or recovery advice.
Can I return a plant?
