Frequently Asked Questions
How to water a plant in a pot without a hole? Pour a small amount of water at a time and gently tilt the pot a few minutes later to drain the excess and avoid stagnation.
Does the Peperomia lose its leaves in winter? No, its foliage is evergreen: if leaves fall, it is usually a sign of overwatering to be corrected by spacing out the waterings.

❤️ Burgundy-edged foliage • 🌿 Compact and branched • ☀️ Bright indirect light • 💧 Moderate watering • 🐾 Non-toxic • 📏 H25 cm | Pot Ø15 cm
Peperomia 'Burning Bush' is a compact variety with round, fleshy, and shiny deep green leaves, highlighted by a fine burgundy edge that intensifies in bright light. Native to tropical America, it is among the easiest plants in the catalog: its fleshy foliage stores water like a semi-succulent and tolerates missed waterings without complaint.
Delivered in its brown stone-effect ceramic pot, it is ready to place on a desk, shelf, or bedside table — a turnkey solution for an instant green corner. Ideal as a gift, it is also among the plants safe for cats and dogs.
Light & Location
The Burning Bush enjoys bright but filtered light: this reveals the variety’s characteristic red edge. In shade, the foliage remains solid green and gradually loses its color contrast. Avoid prolonged direct sun, which fades the leaves and burns the edges. A windowsill facing east or west, or a spot 1 to 2 meters from a south-facing window, offers the best conditions.
- Light: bright indirect light — avoid prolonged direct sun, especially in summer.
- Location: desk, shelf, bedside table, windowsill — perfect for small bright spaces.
- Temperature: 18 to 26 °C — do not go below 12 °C, protected from cold drafts.
- Soil type: light, well-draining potting mix for green plants, with added perlite or fine bark.
The more generous the light, the more pronounced the red leaf edge — move the plant a few dozen centimeters if the contrast fades over weeks.
Watering & Care
Like all Peperomia, the Burning Bush stores water in its fleshy leaves and hates overwatering: a soggy substrate rots its fine roots within days. Before watering, check the finger test method: if the soil is still moist on the surface, wait. Yellowing leaves almost always indicate too frequent watering. To fill out a sparse pot, you can propagate by cuttings: a leaf with its petiole placed in some water or moist soil produces new roots in a few weeks.
- Watering: moderate — let the top 2 cm of soil dry between waterings, about every 7 to 10 days in summer, less often in winter.
- Drainage: essential — the included ceramic pot has no hole; empty excess water after each watering by slightly tilting the container.
- Fertilizer: light feeding with green plant fertilizer once a month in spring and summer only.
- Pruning: regularly pinch back overly long stems to encourage branching and maintain a compact shape.
- Repotting: every 2 to 3 years in spring, into a pot just slightly larger — Peperomia likes to feel a bit cramped.
If leaves become soft and droopy while the substrate is still moist, do not add water — remove the root ball from the pot, let the roots air dry for a few hours, then repot in fresh, well-draining soil.
Decor Ideas & Plant Pairings
The brown stone-effect ceramic pot adds a raw mineral note that contrasts nicely with the shiny dark green foliage and its burgundy edge: a duo that works well both as a standalone piece and within a balanced tropical arrangement.
- For a compact trio on a shelf, pair the Burning Bush with a Pilea Peperomioides with perfectly round leaves and a Peperomia Rana Verde with soft green foliage — three rounded shapes in three shades of green that fit together on one shelf.
- For a calming desk corner, place the Burning Bush next to a Sansevieria Moonshine with architectural gray-green foliage — the fleshy curves of the Peperomia soften the vertical lines of the Sansevieria for a balanced composition at screen height.
- For a graphic trailing touch, complement with a Ceropegia woodii hanging above the pot — the long heart-shaped stems of the Ceropegia create a delicate curtain contrasting with the compact form of the Burning Bush.
- For a colorful Peperomia duo, pair the Burning Bush with a Peperomia Red Canyon with reddish foliage — two varieties of the same genus, two color plays that converse around the same signature burgundy red.
Since the ceramic pot is included, no need for a decorative pot — however, you can place the plant on a wooden saucer or a woven rush mat to add a natural textured note that warms the mineral finish.
Verdeia Tips
- Space them out more than you think: the main cause of Peperomia death is too frequent watering — their fleshy leaves store water and their fine roots rot quickly; better a slightly thirsty plant than one drowning.
- Pinch elongating stems: regularly cut the tips of the longest stems to encourage branching and keep a dense shape — each pinch encourages two new side shoots and enhances the characteristic bushy habit.
- Watch the ceramic pot drainage: this holeless ceramic container is very decorative but requires special care — gently tilt it after each watering to drain excess water collected at the bottom, or place a layer of clay pebbles at the bottom before repotting.
