Frequently Asked Questions
Can you plant a Tillandsia in soil? No, Tillandsias are epiphytic plants that don’t need soil — their roots only serve to attach to a support, while their silvery trichomes absorb water and nutrients directly from the air and misting.
What happens after a Tillandsia blooms? The mother plant gradually dies after a spectacular inflorescence but produces several offsets at its base — let them reach one-third the size of the mother plant before separating and displaying them separately on a support.

🌿 Velvety silvery gray-green rosette • ☀️ Bright indirect light • 💧 Misting 2-3×/week • 🌬️ Soil- and pot-free • 🐾 Non-toxic
Native to the tropical forests and arid regions of Central and South America, the Tillandsia 'King Xero' is an epiphytic plant that naturally grows without soil, attached to tree branches or rocks. Its broad gray-green leaves covered with fine silvery hairs — the trichomes — absorb water and nutrients directly from the air. The 'King Xero' is a xerophytic variety with thick water-storing leaves, one of the most graphic in our air plant collection and our original and rare plants. Delivered with its elegant black metal stand.
Which Tillandsia variety to choose?
Our catalog offers several Tillandsia sizes with very different shapes and presentations:
- Tillandsia 'King Xero' (this plant) — large velvety gray-green rosette with silvery trichomes, delivered with black metal stand (H23 cm | Ø12 cm). The most sculptural and decorative version.
- Tillandsia Super Silver XL — very large spectacular silvery rosette (H15 cm | Ø20 cm). The biggest and most silvery version.
- Tillandsia — Metal Ring — air plant presented on a decorative ring. The most graphic version for wall hanging.
- Tillandsia cyanea — bromeliad with purple flowers on a pink spathe, compact upright habit (H38 cm | Ø11 cm). The most floriferous version.
- Set of 5 Mixed Tillandsia — five assorted miniature air plants. The ideal version to start a collection.
Light & location
- Light: bright indirect light — also tolerates artificial light (LED lamp), making it one of the few plants suitable for well-lit windowless spaces. Check our guide to find the right light-humidity balance for epiphytes.
- Ideal: on its metal stand near a window, bright shelf, airy bathroom, desk, or coffee table.
- Temperature: 15 to 30 °C — tolerates heat but is sensitive to frost.
- Air circulation: essential — good ventilation around the plant allows leaves to dry properly after misting and prevents rot.
Watering & care
- Misting: 2 to 3 times per week with non-calcareous water — spray generously until leaves are thoroughly wet, then let dry completely before the next misting. Calcium clogs the silvery trichomes and prevents water absorption.
- Monthly soak: remove the plant from the stand, fully immerse it in room temperature water for 20 to 30 minutes, shake off excess water, and let it dry upside down for 2 to 3 hours before replacing it.
- Drying: absolutely essential — never place the plant back on its metal stand with stagnant water in the rosette center.
- Fertilizer: once a month in spring-summer, very diluted liquid orchid fertilizer (quarter dose) sprayed on the leaves.
Decor ideas & plant combinations
- Air plant arrangement: pair it with a Tillandsia Super Silver XL and a Tillandsia on metal ring — three air plants with very different sizes and shapes, zero substrate, zero pot, for a truly unique wall or shelf composition.
- On driftwood or bark: attach it to a piece of driftwood or cork board with thin wire — this is the presentation closest to its natural habitat and the most organic, ideal for a minimalist green wall.
- With its metal stand: placed directly on a shelf or coffee table, the included black metal stand highlights the gray-green rosette and allows immediate display without any additional accessories.
Verdeia tips
- Always let it dry completely between mistings: this is the absolute rule for Tillandsia — stagnant water in the rosette center causes irreversible rot within days, and good air circulation is as important as watering itself.
- Wait for flowering and collect offsets: the Tillandsia life cycle is fascinating — the mother plant dies after a spectacular inflorescence (red, pink, or purple), but produces several offsets at its base that you can separate and display separately.
- Use only non-calcareous water: tap water with calcium gradually clogs the silvery trichomes, which are the plant’s absorption organs — rainwater, filtered, or demineralized water are the only long-term options.

How are my plants prepared before shipping?

Will the plant look exactly like the photo?
The photos accurately represent the variety and the stated size. Since each plant is unique, slight differences in shape, foliage, or color may occur — and that’s part of their charm.
What are the delivery times and conditions?
Shipping is done within 48 business hours, with tracked delivery within 2 to 5 business days. Delivery costs €5.60 — free for orders over €50. You will receive a tracking link as soon as the package is shipped.
What to do upon receiving my plant?
Open your package as soon as you receive it and carefully remove the plant from its packaging. Let it acclimate for 24 hours in its new environment before watering. If it has been slightly stressed during transport, it will recover its shape after one or two days in the light.
What to do if my plant arrives damaged?
Contact us within 48 hours with a photo of the issue. Our team will assess the situation and offer you the best solution: replacement, partial refund, or recovery advice.
Can I return a plant?
Since plants are living beings, standard returns are not possible. However, we guarantee good health upon delivery: if the plant arrives damaged, it will be replaced free of charge. For any other cases (order error, decorative pot, accessory), returns are possible within 14 days.
