Frequently Asked Questions
Can the Philodendron pittieri climb a support stake? Yes — a moss stake encourages the development of larger leaves and a more structured shape. Without a stake, the plant naturally maintains a compact, bushy form.
What is the difference between the Philodendron pittieri and the Philodendron Micans? Both have velvety foliage, but the Pittieri has a compact upright shape and green leaves, while the Micans has iridescent bronze-green leaves and a trailing habit.

Exposure & location
The Philodendron pittieri enjoys indirect light — in its natural habitat, it climbs trees in the humid undergrowth, sheltered from direct sunlight.
- Light: bright indirect light to partial shade — avoid direct sun that burns the velvety leaves.
- Ideal: office, shelf, living room, or bright bedroom without direct sunlight.
- Temperature: 18 to 27 °C, without sudden changes or drafts.
- Soil: light, airy, and well-drained — universal potting soil with perlite.
Avoid touching the leaves too often — the velvety texture is made of delicate trichomes that get damaged by repeated contact with fingers and gradually lose their satin look.
Watering & care
Philodendron pittieri is easy to care for and tolerates irregular watering well. Check our watering guide to find the right rhythm.
- Watering: moderate — let the top 3 to 5 cm of soil dry out between waterings.
- Frequency: about once a week in spring-summer, reduced to once every 2 weeks in winter.
- Humidity: prefers 60 to 70% — mist occasionally or place on moist clay pebbles.
- Fertilizer: once a month in spring-summer with a diluted liquid fertilizer for green plants.
To clean velvety leaves, use a soft brush rather than a damp cloth — the brush removes dust without flattening the trichomes that give the foliage its velvety appearance.
Decor ideas & plant pairings
Its unique velvety texture creates a strong tactile contrast in a plant arrangement — a plant you want to touch and that draws attention as much by feel as by sight.
- In combination: pair it with a Calathea Makoyana with smooth, graphic leaves, or a Alocasia Silver Dragon with metallic embossed foliage — two radically different plant textures that enhance each other.
- Ideal pot: white, gray, or black matte ceramic decorative pot — neutral tones highlight the velvety texture without competing with it.
- Atmosphere: perfect on a desk or a bright shelf — its soft touch texture creates a unique sensory plant presence.
Verdeia tips
- The velvety texture is formed by trichomes — these tiny leaf hairs give the foliage its characteristic velvety look and feel. Avoid rubbing the leaves with a damp cloth which would flatten the trichomes — use a soft brush to dust without damaging the texture.
- Optional support stake — Pittieri can naturally climb a moss pole as it grows. A support encourages larger leaves and a more structured habit. Without a stake, it maintains a compact, bushy form.
- Toxic to dogs and cats — like all Araceae, Philodendron pittieri contains irritating calcium oxalate crystals. Keep it out of reach of pets.

FAQ – Everything to know before adopting your Verdeia plant
How are my plants prepared before shipping?
All our plants are selected from our European partner nurseries. Before shipping, they are watered, cleaned, and protected with breathable, secure packaging. Each package is designed to ensure your plant arrives in perfect health, without any transport-related stress.
Will the plant look exactly like the photo?
The photos accurately represent the variety and the stated size. Since each plant is unique, slight differences in shape, foliage, or color may occur — and that’s part of their charm.
What are the delivery times and conditions?
Shipping is done within 48 business hours, with tracked delivery within 2 to 5 business days. Delivery costs €5.60 — free for orders over €50. You will receive a tracking link as soon as the package is shipped.
What to do upon receiving my plant?
Open your package as soon as you receive it and carefully remove the plant from its packaging. Let it acclimate for 24 hours in its new environment before watering. If it has been slightly stressed during transport, it will recover its shape after one or two days in the light.
What to do if my plant arrives damaged?
Contact us within 48 hours with a photo of the issue. Our team will assess the situation and offer you the best solution: replacement, partial refund, or recovery advice.
Can I return a plant?
Since plants are living beings, standard returns are not possible. However, we guarantee good health upon delivery: if the plant arrives damaged, it will be replaced free of charge. For any other cases (order error, decorative pot, accessory), returns are possible within 14 days.
