🌿 Large glossy umbrella-shaped leaves • ☀️ Partial shade / Bright indoor light • 💧 Moderate watering • 🪴 Slender, structured growth • 📏 H100 cm | Decorative pot Ø24 cm
The Schefflera actinophylla 'Amate', also known as the Umbrella plant, is a majestic tropical plant native to Australia and New Guinea — its large glossy leaves arranged in a radiant umbrella shape around long petioles create an immediately recognizable and elegant silhouette. The 'Amate' variety is selected for its particularly dense and shiny foliage. Discover our collection of large indoor plants.
Its ability to reach 200 cm indoors makes it a long-term decorative investment — our XXL plants guide explains how to integrate it effectively into a space.
Exposure & Location
The Schefflera 'Amate' enjoys bright environments without direct sunlight — it tolerates partial shade well and adapts to bright interiors with filtered light. Avoid full sun, especially behind glass.
- Exposure: partial shade to bright indoor light.
- Ideal for: spacious living room, bright entrance, workspace, relaxation corner.
- Temperature: 18 to 26 °C, no cold drafts.
- Substrate: rich, slightly acidic, well-drained potting soil.
Watering & Care
- Watering: moderate — about once a week, let the top layer of soil dry out between waterings. In winter, reduce watering and maintain a stable temperature to prevent leaf drop. Our room-by-room plant guide helps you find the best spot for your interior.
- Drainage: essential — pot with drainage holes, empty saucer after each watering.
- Fertilizer: balanced liquid fertilizer every 2 to 3 weeks in spring and summer.
- Cleaning: dust leaves with a damp cloth to maintain their shine.
- Pruning: cut back overly long or bare stems to encourage new growth.
Decor Ideas & Plant Pairings
Its slender silhouette and radiant umbrella-shaped leaves make it a natural structural plant — placed in a bright corner, it visually defines the space and creates a tropical atmosphere effortlessly.
- In an XXL jungle composition: pair it with a branched Ficus lyrata and a Monstera deliciosa — three large tropical plants, three radically different leaf shapes and silhouettes, dense urban jungle vibe.
- As a statement plant: placed alone in a natural Selin basket in a living room corner — the umbrella silhouette of the Schefflera stands on its own without additional composition.
- Decorative pot: beige stoneware or matte textured ceramic enhances the plant’s stature without competing with the elegance of the foliage.
Verdeia Tips
- Rotate the pot regularly: monthly rotation ensures harmonious growth and balanced foliage all around — without it, branches gradually lean toward the light and the silhouette becomes unbalanced.
- Choose a heavy, stable pot: at 100 cm and taller, the Schefflera has a high center of gravity — a heavy stoneware or ceramic pot prevents tipping risks, especially when repotting.
- Occasionally mist the foliage: light misting replicates tropical humidity and keeps large leaves clean and shiny between cleanings.

FAQ – Everything to know before adopting your Verdeia plant
How are my plants prepared before shipping?
All our plants are selected from our European partner nurseries. Before shipping, they are watered, cleaned, and protected with breathable, secure packaging. Each package is designed to ensure your plant arrives in perfect health, without any transport-related stress.
Will the plant look exactly like the photo?
The photos accurately represent the variety and the stated size. Since each plant is unique, slight differences in shape, foliage, or color may occur — and that’s part of their charm.
What are the delivery times and conditions?
Shipping is done within 48 business hours, with tracked delivery within 2 to 5 business days. Delivery costs €5.60 — free for orders over €50. You will receive a tracking link as soon as the package is shipped.
What to do upon receiving my plant?
Open your package as soon as you receive it and carefully remove the plant from its packaging. Let it acclimate for 24 hours in its new environment before watering. If it has been slightly stressed during transport, it will recover its shape after one or two days in the light.
What to do if my plant arrives damaged?
Contact us within 48 hours with a photo of the issue. Our team will assess the situation and offer you the best solution: replacement, partial refund, or recovery advice.
Can I return a plant?
Since plants are living beings, standard returns are not possible. However, we guarantee good health upon delivery: if the plant arrives damaged, it will be replaced free of charge. For any other cases (order error, decorative pot, accessory), returns are possible within 14 days.
