Frequently Asked Questions
How can I get large perforated leaves on a Monstera Deliciosa? The perforations increase with three factors: the plant’s maturity, good indirect light, and an appropriately sized pot. Add a moss stake to help the Monstera climb — aerial leaves consistently develop more cuts than creeping leaves.
Is the Monstera Deliciosa toxic to cats and dogs? Yes, Monstera contains irritating calcium oxalates that are toxic if ingested by cats and dogs. Keep it out of reach of pets. Strelitzia Nicolai is also not recommended if ingested.

🌿 Iconic tropical duo • 🎨 Architectural graphic foliage • ☀️ Bright light • 💧 Moderate watering • 🧺 2 Selin baskets included • ⚠️ Toxic to pets
This pack brings together two of the most iconic tropical plants: the Strelitzia Nicolai (Giant Bird of Paradise) with its large majestic emerald green leaves, and the Monstera Deliciosa with its signature perforated leaves that become more defined with age. Each comes in a natural Selin basket, ready to display immediately.
Together, they create an architectural tropical focal point in a living room, spacious office, or room with large windows. Find them in our XXL large plants collection and our selection for the living room. Check out our new plant care guide to get started right.
What's included
- 1 Strelitzia Nicolai — Ø19 cm, H85 cm, in its natural Selin basket.
- 1 Monstera Deliciosa — Ø21 cm, H75 cm, in its natural Selin basket.
- 2 natural Selin baskets — one for each plant, included in the pack.
Both plants are delivered in their nursery pots, placed inside the Selin baskets — ready to display with no extra accessories needed.
Light & location
These two tropical plants share the same light requirements — they thrive side by side under the same conditions, making their care easier together.
- Ideal light: bright indirect light — near a large east- or west-facing window.
- Tolerates: light partial shade — but growth slows and leaves stay smaller.
- Avoid: prolonged direct sunlight which burns the leaves of both plants.
- Space: allow room — both plants can reach 200–300 cm at maturity.
- Temperature: 18–25 °C, no cold drafts.
The more generous the light, the larger the leaves — and the more numerous and pronounced the Monstera’s perforations. A bright spot is the best investment for this duo.
Watering & care
- Watering: moderate — let the top of the soil dry out between waterings.
- Frequency: about once a week in spring and summer, reduced in winter.
- Drainage: pots must have drainage holes — both plants do not tolerate standing water.
- Fertilizer: diluted liquid green plant fertilizer every 2 to 4 weeks in spring and summer.
- Cleaning: regularly dust the large leaves with a damp cloth — large surfaces collect a lot of dust which reduces photosynthesis.
- Support: the Monstera benefits from a moss stake to climb naturally and develop larger leaves.
Both plants signal thirst by slightly drooping their leaves — water them and they quickly straighten up. See our complete watering guide to adjust frequency by season.
Decor ideas & plant pairings
The contrast between the Strelitzia’s large smooth oval leaves and the Monstera’s perforated and cut leaves creates an immediately graphic play of textures and volumes.
- As a statement duo: placed side by side in their Selin baskets, they are enough to transform a living room corner or spacious office into a tropical focal point.
- To amplify the jungle effect: add a Philodendron or an Alocasia to densify the arrangement.
- Other packs available: also find the Strelitzia Nicolai & Alocasia macrorrhiza Pack with Selin baskets and the Pack without baskets if you prefer to choose your own decorative pots.
The natural Selin baskets create a cohesive base that visually unifies the two plants despite their different sizes and foliage.
Verdeia tips
- Repot regularly — these plants grow fast — Strelitzia and Monstera grow quickly. Plan to repot every 1 to 2 years in spring into a slightly larger pot — a pot that’s too small restricts growth and leaf size.
- Monstera perforations develop with maturity — young leaves emerge whole. Cuts and perforations appear and increase gradually with age and light. Be patient — the most beautiful leaves come after 2 to 3 years.
- Strelitzia can flower indoors — with enough light and space, it produces its white and blue bird-of-paradise-shaped flowers. This is rare in apartments but possible with very good exposure.
- Dust large leaves regularly — the broad leaves of Strelitzia and Monstera quickly accumulate dust that clogs stomata and reduces photosynthesis. A damp cloth every 2 weeks is enough.
- ⚠️ Toxic to pets — Monstera contains irritating calcium oxalates. Keep it out of reach of cats and dogs. See our plants and pets guide for suitable alternatives.

Will the plant look exactly like the photo?
The photos accurately represent the variety and the stated size. Since each plant is unique, slight differences in shape, foliage, or color may occur — and that’s part of their charm.

What to do upon receiving my plant?
Open your package as soon as you receive it and carefully remove the plant from its packaging. Let it acclimate for 24 hours in its new environment before watering. If it has been slightly stressed during transport, it will recover its shape after one or two days in the light.
What to do if my plant arrives damaged?
Contact us within 48 hours with a photo of the issue. Our team will assess the situation and offer you the best solution: replacement, partial refund, or recovery advice.
