Frequently Asked Questions
Can a Livistona chinensis be placed outdoors in summer? Yes, place it in a sheltered, partially shaded spot from May to September — gradually acclimate it over 2 to 3 weeks to avoid shock and bring it indoors before the first frosts as it only tolerates cool temperatures down to 10 °C.
Why are the tips of my Livistona’s fronds turning brown? Browning tips are almost always caused by hard water or air that is too dry — use filtered or rainwater and increase ambient humidity with regular misting; already browned fronds won’t turn green again but new ones will grow healthy.

🌿 Large fan-shaped glossy green fronds • ☀️ Bright light to partial shade • 💧 Regular watering • 🌴 Majestic tropical form • 🐾 Non-toxic
Native to the subtropical regions of Southeast Asia (China, Japan, Taiwan), the Livistona chinensis is a fan palm with large, glossy green palmate fronds deeply divided into segments that slightly droop to a point — a unique architectural and majestic tropical silhouette. It is among the most elegant large structural plants and indoor tropical plants in the catalog.
Which Livistona variety to choose?
Two Livistona species are available in our catalog:
- Livistona chinensis (this plant) — large, wide, deeply cut glossy intense green fronds, majestic form (H100 cm | Pot Ø24 cm). The more imposing version, tolerates cool temperatures down to 10 °C.
- Livistona rotundifolia — more rounded and compact fronds, less deeply cut segments, soft green, bushier form (H70 cm | Pot Ø17 cm). The gentler, more compact version, prefers warmth.
Light & location
- Light: bright indirect light to partial shade — tolerates a few hours of gentle morning or late afternoon sun. Avoid harsh midday direct sun which can yellow the fronds.
- Ideal: living room, entrance, office, veranda, or bright room.
- Temperature: 15 to 25 °C — tolerates cool temperatures down to 10 °C, making it one of the hardiest indoor palms.
- Substrate: rich, well-drained, and slightly acidic — universal potting soil mixed with perlite.
Watering & care
- Watering: regular — keep the substrate slightly moist without ever soaking it. Palms hate standing water at the base — good drainage is essential to prevent root rot, as explained in our guide on watering indoor plants.
- Frequency: about 1 to 2 times per week in spring-summer, reduced in winter.
- Drainage: essential — pot with drainage holes and well-draining substrate.
- Humidity: prefers 50–60% humidity — mist occasionally or dust the fronds.
- Fertilizer: once a month in spring-summer, liquid fertilizer for palms or green plants.
- Water: prefer filtered or rainwater — hard water gradually browns the tips of the fronds.
Decor ideas & plant combinations
- Structured tropical corner: pair it with a Strelitzia nicolai with large paddle-shaped leaves and a Monstera Deliciosa with split leaves — three very different tropical silhouettes for a monumental tropical atmosphere in a living room corner.
- At the entrance: its tall, slender form and fan-shaped fronds create an instantly recognizable silhouette that welcomes visitors with elegance — it is one of the best large plants to structure an entrance without obstructing traffic.
- Ideal pot: large white Brussels decorative pot for a clean, tropical look, or jute decorative pot for a more natural, organic vibe.
Verdeia tips
- Never cut the palm’s heart: the apical meristem at the center of the crown is the plant’s only growth point — removing damaged fronds is normal, but cutting the central green heart causes irreversible death of the palm.
- Gradually move it outdoors in summer: placed in a sheltered, partially shaded spot from May to September, it benefits from natural light and ambient humidity to develop stronger new fronds — acclimate it over 2 to 3 weeks to avoid shock.
- Use filtered water to preserve the tips: lime builds up gradually in the fronds and irreversibly browns their ends — rain or filtered water is enough to prevent this problem long-term.

Will the plant look exactly like the photo?
The photos accurately represent the variety and the stated size. Since each plant is unique, slight differences in shape, foliage, or color may occur — and that’s part of their charm.
What are the delivery times and conditions?
Shipping is done within 48 business hours, with tracked delivery within 2 to 5 business days. Delivery costs €5.60 — free for orders over €50. You will receive a tracking link as soon as the package is shipped.
What to do upon receiving my plant?
Open your package as soon as you receive it and carefully remove the plant from its packaging. Let it acclimate for 24 hours in its new environment before watering. If it has been slightly stressed during transport, it will recover its shape after one or two days in the light.
What to do if my plant arrives damaged?
Contact us within 48 hours with a photo of the issue. Our team will assess the situation and offer you the best solution: replacement, partial refund, or recovery advice.
Can I return a plant?
