Frequently Asked Questions
How to prune the potted blackberry and raspberry plants? Prune at the end of winter (February-March) only the stems that have already fruited — recognizable by their more woody and dry wood. Remove them at the base. Keep the new green shoots of the year — these will produce the fruits for the next season. Never prune in autumn.
Can the Blackberry Raspberry pack stay outside all year round? Yes, both varieties are very hardy and can withstand down to -15°C. They can stay in pots on a balcony or terrace all year without protection. Water very little in winter during dormancy — they will lose their leaves but will grow back vigorously in spring.

🌿 2 organic fruit shrubs • 🍇 Blackberries + red raspberries • ☀️ Sun to partial shade • 💧 Moderate watering • 🎯 Harvest spread from June to September • ❄️ Hardy to -15°C • 🐾 Non-toxic
This Organic Mulberry and Raspberry Pack brings together two fruit shrubs grown organically: Rubus fruticosus 'Lochness' (thornless mulberry) and Rubus idaeus 'Malling Promise' (early raspberry). Their complementary harvest periods — raspberries in June-July, mulberries in August-September — extend fruit production throughout the summer season.
Two certified organic shrubs, very hardy and easy to grow in pots on a balcony or terrace. Discover them in our fruit trees and herbs selection and our urban vegetable gardens collection.
Pack or separate plants?
The pack is the most complete solution — two different fruits, harvest spread over 4 months. If you want either one separately, or other mulberry varieties:
- Organic Mulberry + Raspberry Pack (this product) — complete duo, extended harvest June-September. The turnkey solution.
- Organic Raspberry 'Malling Promise' alone — very fragrant red raspberries, harvest June-July.
- Organic Mulberry 'Black Satin' alone — shiny blackberries, harvest July-September, thornless.
- Mulberry 'Thornless Evergreen' — semi-evergreen mulberry, decorative foliage, harvest August-October.
The 'Lochness' mulberry in the pack is thornless — a practical advantage for harvesting and maintenance, especially on a balcony or terrace with limited space.
Exposure & location
Both shrubs share the same requirements — making it easy to place them together on a balcony or terrace.
- Ideal exposure: full sun to partial shade — minimum 4 to 6 hours of direct sunlight per day.
- Location: sunny balcony or terrace, urban garden.
- Hardiness: very hardy down to -15 °C — can stay outdoors year-round.
- Substrate: rich and well-drained — potting soil for fruit trees or universal potting mix enriched with compost.
- Pot: at least 30–40 cm in diameter per plant for good root development.
- Support: provide a stake or trellis to guide the stems and make harvesting easier.
The sunnier the exposure, the sweeter the fruits and the more abundant the yield. Both shrubs especially appreciate morning sun.
Watering & care
- Watering: moderate — keep the soil moist but not waterlogged, especially during fruiting.
- Frequency: 2 to 3 times a week in spring and summer, reduced in winter.
- Drainage: pots must have drainage holes for each plant.
- Fertilizer: organic fruit tree fertilizer, once a month in spring and summer — consistent with their organic certification.
- Pruning: at the end of winter, prune stems that have already fruited to encourage new productive shoots for the next season.
A lack of water during fruiting causes small, less sweet fruits. Keep watering regularly from May to September for an optimal harvest. Check our new plant care guide to get off to a good start.
Decor ideas & plant combinations
Productive and decorative — the white spring blooms, red then black fruits, and green foliage create a composition that visually evolves throughout the season.
- In an urban vegetable garden: pair them with an organic blackcurrant bush to complete the fruit palette with a third harvest — blackcurrants in July-August.
- With herbs: lavender, thyme, or rosemary at the base complement the arrangement, attract pollinators, and maximize space.
- Ideal pot: large terracotta or wooden pots — one pot per plant, at least 30–40 cm in diameter.
The white blooms of spring attract pollinators — bees and bumblebees promote better fruiting for both shrubs. Find all our seasonal tips in our month-by-month care calendar.
Verdeia advice
- Prune fruiting canes, not new ones — raspberries and blackberries fruit on different canes depending on the species. At the end of winter, remove only the canes that bore fruit the previous season — they can be recognized by their more woody stems. New green shoots will produce next season’s fruit.
- Use only organic fertilizer — certified organic, they deserve consistent feeding. An organic fruit fertilizer in spring is enough — avoid chemical fertilizers. Check our plant nutrition guide to choose well.
- Provide support from the start — raspberry and blackberry canes grow quickly. A stake or trellis installed at planting makes cane management and harvesting easier.
- Harvest at the right time — raspberries are picked when they easily detach from their receptacle, blackberries when they are fully black and slightly soft. Do not pick too early — unripe fruits are sour.
- 🐾 Non-toxic — blackberries and raspberries are edible and safe for pets and children.
