Frequently Asked Questions
How fast does the Philodendron Birkin grow? It is a moderate growth plant — under optimal conditions, it produces about one new leaf per month in spring and summer.
Why do the new leaves of my Philodendron Birkin no longer have white stripes? Lack of light is the main cause — move it closer to a window with bright indirect light and the new leaves will regain their characteristic white stripes.

🌿 Dark green foliage adorned with white stripes • ☀️ Bright indirect light • 💧 Moderate watering • 🌱 Easy care • 📏 H25 cm | Pot Ø14 cm
The Philodendron Birkin is a compact indoor plant native to the tropical forests of South America, known for its shiny dark green leaves decorated with fine white stripes — a unique natural pattern within the Philodendron genus. Each leaf features a slightly different pattern, making the plant visually surprising as it grows. Discover our full Philodendron collection.
Its compact H25 cm size makes it an ideal choice for desks, shelves, and small spaces — our beginner’s guide explains why the Philodendron Birkin is one of the most recommended plants to start with.
Exposure & Location
The Philodendron Birkin enjoys bright indirect light to keep its white stripes vibrant — in partial shade, the leaves gradually turn greener and the stripes fade.
- Exposure: bright indirect to partial shade — avoid direct sunlight.
- Ideal for: office, shelf, bedroom, living room, small spaces.
- Temperature: 18 to 27 °C, without sudden changes.
- Substrate: light, rich, and well-drained — universal potting soil with perlite.
Watering & Care
- Watering: moderate — let the top 3 to 5 cm of substrate dry out between waterings. Our light and humidity guide helps you find the right balance.
- Frequency: about once a week in spring and summer, every two weeks in winter.
- Humidity: prefers 50 to 70% humidity — mist occasionally or group plants together.
- Fertilizer: once a month in spring and summer, diluted liquid fertilizer for green plants.
- Cleaning: gently wipe leaves with a damp cloth to preserve their shiny glow and white stripes.
Decor Ideas & Plant Combinations
Its white stripes on a dark green background make it a strong graphic accent plant in a composition of uniform green foliage — it provides immediate contrast without bright colors.
- In a Philodendron collection: pair it with the velvety Philodendron melanochrysum and the white-variegated Philodendron White Princess — three Philodendrons, three textures, and three expressions of white on green, a coherent and visually rich collection.
- Size contrast: place it in front of a Monstera deliciosa with large perforated leaves — the Birkin’s compact size and the Monstera’s stature create a very effective two-level composition.
- Decorative pot: a matte ceramic in white, gray, or black highlights the natural black and white graphic pattern of the foliage.
Verdeia Tips
- Bright light = intense white stripes: place it in the brightest spot available without direct sun — this is the most important factor to maintain the intensity of the white stripes on new leaves.
- Watch new leaves: each new leaf emerges slightly different from the previous one and the pattern evolves with the plant’s age — this is one of the most fascinating features of the Birkin, not a sign of disease.
- Rotate the pot monthly: regular rotation ensures even and symmetrical growth — without it, leaves gradually lean toward the light source.

What to do upon receiving my plant?
