Frequently Asked Questions
How often should you water a Sansevieria Whitney? Every 2 to 3 weeks in spring and summer, making sure the soil is completely dry before watering — in winter, space out watering even more.
Why are the leaves of my Sansevieria yellowing at the base? Yellowing at the base is almost always a sign of overwatering — let the soil dry completely between waterings and make sure the pot has drainage holes.

🌿 Upright dark green foliage edged with silver • ☀️ Sun to partial shade • 💧 Low watering • 🌱 Ultra easy • 📏 H27 cm | Pot Ø12 cm
Sansevieria 'Whitney', also known as Mother-in-law's Tongue, is a compact variety with upright dark green leaves highlighted by silver edges — a graphic and clean form ideal for small spaces. Native to the arid tropical regions of West Africa, it tolerates drought, low light, and missed waterings. Discover our full Sansevieria collection.
Its special feature: it tolerates low-light rooms better than almost any other houseplant. Our guide to plants for dark rooms will give you all the keys to place it perfectly.
Exposure & Location
Sansevieria Whitney adapts to almost all light conditions — from full sun to deep partial shade. It is one of the few plants that truly thrives in a dimly lit hallway.
- Exposure: full sun to partial shade — tolerates low light but avoid total darkness.
- Ideal for: office, living room, entryway, hallway, windowsill, or low-light shelf.
- Temperature: 16 to 28 °C, without sudden changes or excessive humidity.
- Substrate: well-draining — cactus and succulent potting mix.
Watering & Care
- Watering: low — every 2 to 3 weeks in spring and summer, let the substrate dry out completely between waterings. Reduce significantly in winter. Our finger test is the most reliable method to know exactly when to water.
- Drainage: essential — root rot from excess water is the only real threat to this plant.
- Fertilizer: once a month in spring and summer, diluted mild fertilizer for green plants.
- Cleaning: wipe leaves with a damp cloth to preserve the shine of the silver edges.
- Repotting: only every 3 years — Sansevieria likes to be a bit root-bound.
Decor Ideas & Plant Combinations
Its strict vertical form and silver edges make it a structural plant — it works especially well in contrast with round or trailing foliage.
- In a graphic trio: pair it with a Zamioculcas and a Pilea peperomioides — three ultra-easy plants, three different forms (vertical, bushy, trailing), zero maintenance hassle.
- In a Sansevieria collection: combine it with the Sansevieria Moonshine with bright silver foliage — same genus, two complementary colors.
- Decorative pot: a terracotta or light concrete pot highlights the upright form and silver tones of the foliage.
Verdeia Tips
- Water less than you think: excess water is the only real danger for Sansevieria — wait until the substrate is completely dry throughout before watering again.
- Ideal for challenging rooms: dark hallway, windowless office, entryway — Sansevieria Whitney endures conditions where most plants would wither.
- Clean leaves once a month: dust dulls the silver edges — a quick wipe with a slightly damp cloth is enough to revive the foliage’s shine.

FAQ – Everything to know before adopting your Verdeia plant
How are my plants prepared before shipping?
All our plants are selected from our European partner nurseries. Before shipping, they are watered, cleaned, and protected with breathable, secure packaging. Each package is designed to ensure your plant arrives in perfect health, without any transport-related stress.
Will the plant look exactly like the photo?
The photos accurately represent the variety and the stated size. Since each plant is unique, slight differences in shape, foliage, or color may occur — and that’s part of their charm.
What are the delivery times and conditions?
Shipping is done within 48 business hours, with tracked delivery within 2 to 5 business days. Delivery costs €5.60 — free for orders over €50. You will receive a tracking link as soon as the package is shipped.
What to do upon receiving my plant?
Open your package as soon as you receive it and carefully remove the plant from its packaging. Let it acclimate for 24 hours in its new environment before watering. If it has been slightly stressed during transport, it will recover its shape after one or two days in the light.
What to do if my plant arrives damaged?
Contact us within 48 hours with a photo of the issue. Our team will assess the situation and offer you the best solution: replacement, partial refund, or recovery advice.
Can I return a plant?
Since plants are living beings, standard returns are not possible. However, we guarantee good health upon delivery: if the plant arrives damaged, it will be replaced free of charge. For any other cases (order error, decorative pot, accessory), returns are possible within 14 days.
