Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between Monstera Deliciosa and Monstera Adansonii? The Deliciosa has very large leaves with deep cuts on the edges, while the Adansonii has smaller leaves with many natural holes and a more delicate trailing or climbing habit.
Can you put a Monstera in a bedroom? Yes, as long as there is a window with good indirect light — without enough light, new leaves grow whole and the plant gradually loses its iconic character.

🌿 Large perforated dark green leaves • 🏛️ Architectural presence • ☀️ Bright indirect light • 💧 Moderate watering • 🏙️ 8 available sizes
The Monstera Deliciosa, also known as the Swiss cheese plant or false philodendron, is a tropical climbing plant native to the forests of Central and South America. Its large, glossy dark green leaves, perforated with natural holes called fenestrations, create an architectural, graphic silhouette that is instantly recognizable. Discover it in the Monstera collection.
Monstera and Philodendron look alike, but the choice between these two tropical families depends on your interior and level of experience.
Which Monstera variety should you choose?
The Monstera genus offers several varieties with very different sizes and variegation patterns — all available in the Monstera collection. Here's how Monstera Deliciosa stands out:
- Monstera Deliciosa (this plant) — large perforated and split dark green leaves, rapid growth, and an impressive climbing habit. The classic variety and the most spectacular in a large format.
- Monstera Thai Constellation — cream and green variegated foliage with stable marbling, a rare collector's plant. The precious variegated variety.
- Monstera Adansonii — smaller leaves with numerous natural holes, trailing or climbing growth. The delicate, airy variety.
- Rhaphidophora tetrasperma (Monstera Minima) — split green foliage, compact size, rapid growth. The accessible mini climbing variety.
Light & location
Monstera Deliciosa thrives in bright indirect light — this is the key to producing leaves with spectacular fenestrations. In conditions that are too dark, new leaves emerge whole, without holes or splits. The balance between light and humidity is crucial to the quality of the foliage.
- Light: bright indirect light — avoid direct sun, which scorches the large leaves.
- Location: bright living room, office, bedroom — on the floor to showcase its height and spread.
- Temperature: 18–27 °C, with no sudden changes or cold drafts.
- Humidity: ideally 50–70% — mist occasionally.
The brighter and more indirect the light, the more perforations and deep splits new leaves will develop — in partial shade, the leaves remain whole and lose their iconic character.
Watering & care
Monstera Deliciosa prefers slightly moist substrate between waterings — let the top 3 to 5 centimetres dry before watering. Excess water causes yellowing leaves and root rot: watering indoor plants should be timed according to how quickly the substrate dries.
- Frequency: once a week in spring and summer, every 2 weeks in winter.
- Drainage: essential — use a pot with drainage holes and a well-draining substrate.
- Support: install a moss or coco coir pole to help it climb and develop larger leaves.
- Cleaning: gently wipe the large leaves with a damp cloth to preserve their glossy shine.
Install a moss pole as soon as possible — as it climbs, Monstera develops significantly larger, more deeply split leaves than when grown without support.
Decor ideas & plant pairings
Monstera Deliciosa's large perforated leaves create an immediate, architectural plant presence. It is a plant that structures the space and creates a natural focal point in large, bright interiors.
- On the floor in a bright living room, place it in the natural Selin basket Ø26 cm — the natural woven texture enhances the tropical, organic look of the split foliage in an authentic urban jungle arrangement.
- For an XXL duo arrangement, pair it with a Strelitzia Nicolai — the Strelitzia's tall upright fronds and Monstera's large perforated leaves create two contrasting tropical silhouettes for a bright living room.
- For a contrast of textures, pair it with an Alocasia Zebrina — the Alocasia's striped stems and shield-shaped leaves contrast with Monstera's large split leaves for a highly effective graphic tropical duo.
- For a graphic jungle arrangement, place it in the Capi Nature Groove taupe pot - the pot's ribbed texture and neutral shade let the large perforated leaves dominate the arrangement without competition.
To create a cohesive tropical atmosphere around Monstera, pair it with plants that enjoy the same bright indirect light and ambient humidity.
Verdeia tips
- Maximize light for spectacular fenestrations: this is the most decisive factor - a well-positioned window with indirect light ensures new leaves with deep splits and abundant perforations from the next growth flush.
- Wipe the large leaves regularly: dust clogs the stomata and dulls Monstera's characteristic glossy dark-green colour - a monthly wipe with a damp cloth is enough to keep them vibrant and improve photosynthesis.
- Install a support now: by climbing a moss support, Monstera develops leaves two to three times larger than when grown without support - this is the best way to quickly achieve the iconic fenestrations of an adult plant.
