Frequently Asked Questions
Why does the water in my hydroponic jar turn green? Green water indicates algae growth, caused almost exclusively by too much light exposure. Change the water immediately, clean the jar, and move the plant to a spot with indirect light without direct sun exposure.
Can you leave a hydroponic plant in a jar without changing the water during vacation? For a short absence of 1 to 2 weeks, simply top up the water level before leaving — the plant will manage. Beyond 2 weeks, the water may stagnate and deteriorate. Ask someone to change the water or temporarily move the plant to a larger jar before you leave.

🌿 Hydroponic Clusia • 💧 Roots visible in a spherical jar • ☀️ Indirect light • 🔄 Regular water renewal • 🎁 Ready to gift • 📏 H10 cm | Jar Ø5 cm
The Clusia in Samoa jar is a mini hydroponic plant presented in an elegant narrow-necked transparent glass spherical jar. The Clusia rosea, also called the Autograph tree, is a tropical plant native to the tropical regions of Central and South America, known for its shiny thick green leaves and great resilience. Its roots grow directly in the water inside the sphere, visible through the glass — a simple and elegant decorative effect.
Soil-free, easy care, ultra-compact size. Discover it in our plant gift selection and in our original plants collection.
Which size of hydroponic Clusia should you choose?
Clusia is available in several glass container sizes, each with a distinct aesthetic:
- Clusia Samoa jar (this product) — narrow-necked spherical jar, H10 cm | Jar Ø5 cm. The most compact and rounded version.
- Clusia Samoa jar + LED — same spherical jar with built-in LED lighting. The illuminated version.
- Clusia Victoria jar on black metal stand — glass sphere on curved black metal stand, H10 cm | Jar Ø5 cm. The sculptural version.
- Clusia glass tube — cylindrical tube with cork stopper, H15 cm | Tube Ø5 cm. The minimalist slender version.
- Clusia glass tube + LED — tube with built-in LED lighting. The sleek illuminated version.
- Clusia cylinder jar — open cylindrical jar, H30 cm | Jar Ø12 cm. The imposing version.
Why choose the Samoa jar? Its narrow-necked spherical shape is the most organic and natural in the range — it echoes natural forms. It’s also the most compact size and easiest to place anywhere.
Exposure & location
The Clusia Samoa jar enjoys bright indirect light — avoid direct sunlight which overheats the water and encourages algae growth.
- Light exposure: bright indirect light — avoid direct sunlight.
- Ideal for: desk, shelf, north- or east-facing windowsill, bright bathroom.
- Temperature: 18 to 25 °C, without sudden changes.
Its spherical shape concentrates heat faster than a cylindrical vase — be especially careful to keep it away from direct sunlight, even in winter.
Watering & care
Same principle as all hydroponic plants in open vases — maintain a constant water level and renew it regularly to avoid stagnation.
- Water level: cover the roots without fully submerging the stem — leave the root/stem transition area exposed to air.
- Renewal: change the water every 2 to 3 weeks or as soon as it becomes cloudy.
- Water type: filtered, rain, or tap water left to rest for 24 hours.
- Fertilizer: a few drops of very diluted liquid fertilizer during the water change, once a month.
- Cleaning: rinse the jar with each water change to prevent algae.
If algae appear, change the water immediately, clean the jar, and move the plant to a less light-exposed spot.
Decor ideas & combinations
Its compact spherical shape naturally fits into any space — a discreet and elegant plant presence that takes up almost no room.
- In arrangements: pair it with the trio of plants in colored jars or the hydroponic trio in bottles with wooden bases to vary container shapes.
- As a gift: its neat presentation, minimal care, and pocket size make it one of the most universal plant gifts.
- Atmosphere: perfect on a desk or shelf — its simple, organic spherical shape fits well in both minimalist interiors and fuller plant arrangements.
Verdeia advice
- Change the water regularly — every 2 to 3 weeks, empty the jar, rinse it and the roots with fresh water, then refill. The small size of the Samoa jar speeds up the necessary renewal compared to a large vase — stagnant water deteriorates faster in a small volume.
- Do not fully cover the roots — leave the root/stem junction slightly above the water level to allow oxygenation. A stem constantly submerged will eventually rot, even in hydroponics.
- Roots turn brown over time — this is normal as long as the leaves remain healthy. Black and soft roots indicate stagnant water: refresh more often and rinse the jar thoroughly.
- Non-toxic — Clusia poses no risk to cats, dogs, or children, making it an ideal choice for homes with pets.

FAQ – Everything to know before adopting your Verdeia plant
How are my plants prepared before shipping?
All our plants are selected from our European partner nurseries. Before shipping, they are watered, cleaned, and protected with breathable, secure packaging. Each package is designed to ensure your plant arrives in perfect health, without any transport-related stress.
Will the plant look exactly like the photo?
The photos accurately represent the variety and the stated size. Since each plant is unique, slight differences in shape, foliage, or color may occur — and that’s part of their charm.
What are the delivery times and conditions?
Shipping is done within 48 business hours, with tracked delivery within 2 to 5 business days. Delivery costs €5.60 — free for orders over €50. You will receive a tracking link as soon as the package is shipped.
What to do upon receiving my plant?
Open your package as soon as you receive it and carefully remove the plant from its packaging. Let it acclimate for 24 hours in its new environment before watering. If it has been slightly stressed during transport, it will recover its shape after one or two days in the light.
What to do if my plant arrives damaged?
Contact us within 48 hours with a photo of the issue. Our team will assess the situation and offer you the best solution: replacement, partial refund, or recovery advice.
Can I return a plant?
Since plants are living beings, standard returns are not possible. However, we guarantee good health upon delivery: if the plant arrives damaged, it will be replaced free of charge. For any other cases (order error, decorative pot, accessory), returns are possible within 14 days.
