Frequently Asked Questions
Can you leave an Aloe vera without watering during vacation? Yes — it is one of the most tolerant plants to absence. An adult Aloe vera can easily go 3 to 4 weeks without watering, or even longer in winter. Water well before leaving and make sure it gets enough light — it will manage very well on its own.
Why are my Aloe vera leaves softening and becoming translucent? This is a sign of overwatering — the roots are starting to rot. Take the plant out of its pot, let the soil and roots dry completely in open air for 2 to 3 days, remove any blackened roots if necessary, then repot in fresh, dry soil. Do not water for 2 weeks after repotting.

🌿 Graphic architectural rosette • 💚 Soothing and healing gel • ☀️ Bright light • 💧 Very low watering • 🪴 Included textured concrete-effect pot • 📏 H45 cm | Pot Ø12 cm
Aloe vera (Aloe barbadensis) is an iconic medicinal succulent plant native to the Arabian Peninsula. Its long, fleshy gray-green leaves form an elegant architectural rosette, filled with a transparent gel with soothing, healing, and hydrating properties used for millennia. Ultra-easy to care for, it perfectly tolerates drought and missed waterings.
Delivered in its included light gray textured concrete-effect pot — a clean and contemporary set, ready to place. Discover it in our Aloe collection and in our cactus and succulents selection.
Which Aloe variety to choose?
The Aloe genus offers several varieties in our catalog:
- Aloe vera in textured concrete-effect pot (this plant) — H45 cm | Pot Ø12 cm. The imposing and graphic version, abundant medicinal gel.
- Aloe vera in jade pot — same size, in a jade-colored pot.
- Aloe Spider — thin, drooping leaves, very compact size Ø10.5 cm. The miniature and graphic version.
- Aloe paradisicum — wider leaves with contrasting patterns, compact size. The decorative version.
Why choose Aloe vera? It is the only variety whose leaves contain enough medicinal gel for practical daily use. Other varieties are mainly decorative.
Exposure & placement
Aloe vera loves bright light — this is its main condition to develop thick leaves full of gel.
- Exposure: bright light to moderate direct sun — tolerates full sun once gradually acclimated.
- Ideal: sunny windowsill, bright kitchen, office, or sheltered balcony.
- Temperature: 15 to 25 °C, tolerates temperature variations well.
- Substrate: very draining — potting soil for cacti and succulents with sand or perlite.
Place it in the brightest spot available — a south- or west-facing windowsill is ideal for dense, gel-filled leaves.
Watering & care
Aloe vera prefers underwatering to overwatering — its fleshy leaves store water and allow it to go several weeks without watering. Check our watering guide to find the right rhythm.
- Watering: low — let the soil dry completely between waterings (every 2 to 3 weeks).
- Frequency: about every 2 to 3 weeks in summer, once a month in winter.
- Drainage: essential — absolutely avoid standing water that rots the roots.
- Fertilizer: every 8 weeks in spring-summer with diluted liquid cactus fertilizer.
Soft, translucent leaves indicate overwatering — wrinkled and thinning leaves indicate underwatering. Between the two, always wait for the soil to be completely dry.
Medicinal properties & uses
The gel contained in Aloe vera leaves has been used for millennia for its therapeutic and cosmetic virtues.
- Soothing properties: relieves minor burns, sunburns, and skin irritations within minutes.
- Moisturizing properties: deeply hydrates and nourishes the skin — especially effective on dry skin.
- Healing properties: promotes cell regeneration and healing of small wounds and cracks.
- Use: cut an outer leaf at the base, extract the clear gel, and apply directly to the skin.
Keep an Aloe vera in your kitchen — its fresh gel is the best immediate remedy for everyday minor cooking burns.
Decor ideas & plant pairings
Its graphic architectural rosette and textured concrete-effect pot create a clean, contemporary composition — a plant that is both decorative and useful, rare in nature.
- In combination: pair it with a Sansevieria Laurentii or a Lepismium bolivianum for a succulent arrangement with contrasting forms — all share the same minimal water and light needs.
- Pot included: the light gray textured concrete effect pot is included — the set is ready to place with nothing to add.
- Atmosphere: perfect on a sunny windowsill, in a kitchen or bright office — its architectural silhouette creates a strong graphic accent.
Verdeia tips
- Less water is better than too much — Aloe vera is a succulent that stores water in its leaves. Root rot from overwatering is its main cause of death. Always wait until the substrate is completely dry before watering — even in summer.
- It produces offsets — Aloe vera naturally produces "babies" at its base (also called pups). You can gently separate them from the mother plant once they have a few leaves and replant them in dry substrate to propagate.
- Use fresh gel — to use its medicinal properties, always cut an outer leaf (the oldest) at the base. Extract the clear gel — not the yellow latex which is irritating — and apply directly. Avoid ingesting the yellow latex found between the skin and the gel.
- Slightly toxic if ingested — the yellow latex under the leaf skin is irritating to cats and dogs. Keep out of reach of animals that might chew the leaves.
