Frequently Asked Questions
Why does the Monstera adansonii have few holes? The holes develop with maturity and good light. If new leaves come out without holes, move the pot closer to a window with indirect light. Note: very young leaves are always whole, this is normal — the holes appear at a certain stage of maturity.
Is this duo toxic to animals? Yes, both plants are toxic if ingested by dogs and cats. The Monstera adansonii contains irritating calcium oxalates and the Clusia rosea contains toxic terpenes. Keep this duo out of reach of your pets.

🌿 Tropical duo in hydroponics • 🕳️ Perforated leaves + round leaves • 💧 Ultra-easy care • 🪴 Glass jar included • 📏 H30 cm | Jar Ø12 cm • ⚠️ Toxic to pets
This duo brings together two tropical plants with contrasting foliage in a glass jar: the Monstera adansonii ("Monkey Leaf") with small, graphic perforated leaves and trailing habit, and the Clusia ("Autograph Tree") with round, fleshy, glossy deep green leaves. Grown hydroponically, their roots sit directly in water — visible through the clear glass.
Minimal care, instantly graphic look, ready to place with nothing to add. Ideal for a desk, shelf, or as a unique plant gift. Discover it in our collection of plants in jars and vases and our selection of ready-to-gift plants.
Which hydroponic duo to choose?
Three glass jar duos are available in our catalog — each offers a different foliage contrast:
- Monstera adansonii/Clusia Duo (this product) — graphic perforated leaves + round, fleshy leaves. The most contrasting and graphic.
- Clusia/Syngonium Green Duo — fleshy leaves + delicate arrow-shaped foliage. The most balanced and classic.
- Monstera adansonii/Syngonium Green Duo — perforated leaves + arrow-shaped foliage. The most airy and light.
The Monstera adansonii brings movement and lightness with its trailing stems, while the Clusia provides structure and volume — a striking contrast of shapes and rhythms in the same jar.
Exposure & location
This duo fits many spaces thanks to its compact size and minimal care — light mainly affects the growth rate and the density of the Monstera’s perforations.
- Ideal exposure: moderate to bright indirect light — east- or west-facing window, desk near a window.
- Avoid: direct sunlight that burns leaves and warms the water, encouraging algae growth.
- Temperature: 18–26 °C, no cold drafts or direct heat sources.
- Humidity: prefers 50–70% humidity — occasionally mist the foliage in dry air.
Monstera develops more holes with good indirect light. If new leaves emerge without holes, move the jar closer to a window.
Hydroponic care
- Water level: keep the water halfway up the jar — roots submerged, stems above water.
- Check: monitor the water level every 2 weeks and top up with room temperature water.
- Water change: every 2–3 months — empty, rinse the jar and roots, then refill with fresh water.
- Water quality: use filtered or rested water for 24 hours — limescale builds up on the walls and roots.
- Fertilizer: a few drops of diluted liquid fertilizer once a month in spring and summer.
- Pruning: trim the Monstera stems when they get too long — cuttings root easily in a new jar of water.
If green algae appear on the walls, it means the jar is getting too much direct light. Move it slightly away from the window and clean the walls during the next water change.
Decor ideas & combinations
The clear glass jar and visible roots make this duo a decorative composition in its own right — not just two plants in a container.
- Alone on a shelf or desk: placed in front of a white wall or neutral surface, the contrast between the two types of foliage immediately stands out.
- In a plant gallery: pair it with other hydroponic arrangements from our jars and vases collection to create a cohesive set with varied heights.
- As a gift: ready to display, no repotting or accessories needed, it makes an original plant gift for a housewarming, birthday, or farewell.
The trailing stems of Monstera adansonii will lengthen over time and gradually extend beyond the jar — an evolving decorative effect that changes week by week.
Verdeia advice
- Change the water regularly — this is rule number one — at least every 2–3 months, even if the water still looks clean. Mineral buildup and organic waste eventually harm the roots without immediate visible signs.
- Brown roots: act quickly — remove damaged roots with clean scissors, rinse thoroughly, and completely change the water. Quick action saves the plant.
- The Monstera grows faster than the Clusia — regularly trim the Monstera stems to maintain visual balance in the jar. Cuttings root easily in a glass of water.
- Necks must never be submerged — keep the water level below the base of the stems. A neck constantly in water will rot the plant within weeks.
- Acclimate plants upon delivery — 48 hours in a temperate room before placing them in their final spot. Check our new plant welcome guide for a good start.
- ⚠️ Toxic to pets — both Monstera adansonii and Clusia rosea are toxic if ingested by dogs and cats. Keep this duo out of reach of animals. See our plants and pets guide for suitable alternatives.

What to do upon receiving my plant?
Open your package as soon as you receive it and carefully remove the plant from its packaging. Let it acclimate for 24 hours in its new environment before watering. If it has been slightly stressed during transport, it will recover its shape after one or two days in the light.
What to do if my plant arrives damaged?
Contact us within 48 hours with a photo of the issue. Our team will assess the situation and offer you the best solution: replacement, partial refund, or recovery advice.
