Sansevieria zeylanica — Mother-in-law's tongue
🌿 Depolluting • ☀️ Bright interior / Partial shade • 💧 Low watering • 🪴 Ultra-easy maintenance
The Sansevieria zeylanica, also known as mother-in-law's tongue, is a must-have indoor plant for its robustness and natural elegance. Native to tropical Africa, it stands out with its long upright leaves marbled with silver green, bringing a graphic and contemporary touch to any living space.
Perfect for busy city dwellers or beginners, this air-purifying plant tolerates almost anything: little water, indirect light, and even some missed waterings. A nature concentrate with a clean style, emblematic of the modern urban jungle.
Exposure & placement
The Sansevieria zeylanica thrives both in a bright room and in slight shade. Resistant and adaptable, it suits both apartments and offices.
- Exposure: bright light or partial shade.
- Ideal: living room, entrance, bedroom, or workspace.
- Temperature: between 15 and 28 °C, without cold drafts.
- Substrate: light and very draining (potting soil + sand or perlite).
Verdeia tip: place it in a corner where it catches indirect morning light — it will grow slowly but surely there.
Watering & maintenance
- Watering: very moderate; watering every 2 to 3 weeks is enough.
- In winter: space out watering even more.
- Maintenance: wipe the leaves occasionally to remove dust.
- Fertilizer: once a month in spring and summer, in light doses.
- Repotting: only every 3–4 years, Sansevieria likes to be snug.
The secret to a thriving Sansevieria? Never let water stagnate in the saucer.
Decor ideas & plant pairings
Thanks to its natural verticality and stiff leaves, the Sansevieria zeylanica brings a modern and graphic touch to any decor. It pairs perfectly with contemporary, Scandinavian, or minimalist interiors.
- To pair with: Zamioculcas, Ficus, or Aloe vera for a robust and harmonious composition.

Pair it with a light or textured decorative pot to highlight its marbled foliage and graphic silhouette.
