Frequently Asked Questions
How often should you water a Sansevieria Moonshine? Every 2 to 3 weeks in spring and summer, making sure the soil is completely dry before watering — in winter, once a month is usually enough.
Is the Sansevieria Moonshine suitable for low-light rooms? Yes — it tolerates low light better than most decorative plants, but its silvery tone will be more intense in a bright spot without direct sunlight.

🌿 Upright silvery green foliage with an almost metallic sheen • ☀️ Sun to partial shade • 💧 Very low watering • 🌱 Ultra easy • 2 sizes available
Sansevieria 'Moonshine' stands out from all other varieties in the Sansevieria collection with its almost metallic silvery green color — a unique shade in its kind that creates a clean and bright effect that is immediately recognizable. Native to the tropical regions of West Africa, it shares the exceptional robustness of all Sansevierias while offering a much more refined aesthetic than classic varieties.
Its bright silvery tone creates a strong contrast with dark-leaved plants — it is through this opposition that it expresses its full decorative potential. Our guide to plants for dark rooms explains how to make the most of its tolerance to low light.
Exposure & location
Sansevieria 'Moonshine' tolerates a wide range of light conditions — from bright filtered sun to pronounced partial shade. In bright light, its silvery tone is more intense and metallic; in low light, it remains present but slightly less pronounced. It is one of the few graphic foliage plants that truly adapts to any room.
- Exposure: indirect light to partial shade — tolerates low light, avoid direct scorching sun.
- Ideal for: office, living room, east or north-facing windowsill, bright bathroom.
- Temperature: 16 to 28 °C — avoid below 10 °C.
- Substrate: well-draining mix — cactus soil with sand or perlite.
To maintain the intensity of the metallic silvery tone, place the plant in as bright a spot as possible — too little light produces ordinary light green leaves that gradually lose their characteristic pearly shine.
Watering & care
Excess water is the only real enemy of Sansevieria 'Moonshine'. In a pot, under the low light conditions where it is often placed, the substrate takes much longer to dry than expected — a very common watering mistake. Our easy plants guide explains why sansevieria is the most forgiving in the catalog. If leaves turn yellow, excess water is almost always the cause.
- Watering: very low — let the substrate dry completely between waterings.
- Frequency: every 2 to 3 weeks in summer, once a month in winter.
- Drainage: essential — pot with drainage holes and well-draining substrate.
- Fertilizer: light feeding every 2 months in spring and summer only.
- Cleaning: a soft cloth monthly to maintain the silvery shine of the leaves.
- Repotting: only every 3 to 4 years — it likes to be snug in its pot.
Always wait until the top 5 centimeters of substrate are completely dry before watering — in low light rooms, this can take 3 to 4 weeks, much longer than one might intuitively think.
Decor ideas & plant pairings
Its bright silvery tone works as a clear visual anchor in a composition — it highlights dark plants placed next to it and brings lightness to the whole.
- For maximum graphic duo, the Sansevieria 'Black Coral' with very dark green foliage is the ideal companion — two Sansevierias, two opposite colors, same shape, same care, immediate graphic contrast without any complication.
- For a low-light trio composition, the very dark glossy green Zamioculcas and the marbled silvery Aglaonema 'Silver Queen' create a coherent trio with Moonshine — three plants tolerant of low light, three distinct textures, zero maintenance constraints.
- To enhance the silver in a contrasting decorative pot, the decorative pot Gabriel golden ochre Ø14 cm brings a terracotta warmth that accentuates the metallic coolness of the silvery foliage — the warm/cool contrast between the pot and the leaves creates a very elegant and contemporary harmony.
- For a very clean white and silver match, the white relief ceramic decorative pot amplifies the brightness of the silvery foliage — a minimalist and very graphic look that works particularly well in a contemporary or Scandinavian interior.
Turn the pot a quarter turn each month — without this regular rotation, the leaves gradually lean toward the light source and the plant loses its characteristic symmetry.
Verdeia Tips
- Water even less than you think: in the low light conditions where it is often placed, the substrate takes much longer to dry — always wait until the top 5 centimeters are completely dry before watering, even if it takes 3 to 4 weeks.
- Clean the foliage regularly: dust dulls the metallic silvery tone which is its main decorative asset — monthly cleaning with a slightly damp cloth is enough to revive its shine and improve its ability to capture available light.
- Choose the size according to the location: the H40 cm | Pot Ø14 cm suits small spaces, windowsills, and desks; the H60 cm | Pot Ø17 cm is more of an accent plant for a living room or corner — both versions share exactly the same care.
