🌿 Dense and elegant foliage • ☀️ Bright indirect light • 💧 Moderate watering • 🏙️ Structuring XXL plant • 📏 H120 cm | Pot Ø27 cm
The Ficus Benjamina Exotica, also known as the Weeping Fig, is a majestic tropical plant recognized for its dense foliage with small, shiny deep green leaves. Its graceful drooping habit and natural branching create a sophisticated silhouette that brings lightness and structure to any interior — a reliable choice in our large indoor plants selection.
Native to the tropical forests of Southeast Asia and Australia, this species naturally grows into large trees where it develops its characteristic dense foliage. With an impressive height of 120 cm, it becomes the centerpiece of your urban jungle, perfect for dressing a living room, entrance, or spacious office.
Which variety of Ficus Benjamina to choose?
The Ficus benjamina genus includes several cultivars with distinct foliage — here are the varieties available in our Ficus Benjamina collection:
- Ficus Benjamina 'Exotica' (this plant) — narrow, shiny dark green leaves, very dense drooping habit (H120 cm | Pot Ø27 cm). The largest and most structuring version.
- Ficus Benjamina 'Danielle' — broad, smooth dark green leaves, dense and compact habit (H95 cm | Pot Ø21 cm). The most classic and widespread version.
- Ficus Benjamina 'Goldenking' — variegated green and cream leaves, airy habit (H95 cm | Pot Ø21 cm). The brightest and most decorative version.
- Ficus Benjamina 'Twilight' — finely cream-edged leaves, very graphic foliage (H95 cm | Pot Ø21 cm). The most elegant and contrasting version.
- Ficus Benjamina 'Kinky' — wavy light green leaves edged with cream, compact habit (H28 cm | Pot Ø12 cm). The miniature version, ideal for starting out.
Light & location
The Ficus Benjamina Exotica thrives in bright indirect light — a well-lit window without direct sun is enough to reveal all its foliage. To know where to place it depending on your rooms, this complete guide by room type will help you make the right choice.
- Light: bright indirect light to partial shade — protected from direct sun in summer.
- Ideal for: spacious living room, bright entrance, office, or room corner near a window.
- Temperature: 18 to 25 °C, without sudden changes or drafts.
- Substrate: rich, light, and well-drained — potting soil for green plants mixed with perlite.
Watering & care
The Ficus Benjamina is sensitive to both overwatering and drought — consistency matters more than quantity. To master this balance, the finger test method is the most reliable before each watering.
- Watering: moderate — let the surface of the substrate dry slightly between waterings.
- Drainage: essential to avoid root rot — always use a pot with drainage holes.
- Humidity: prefers a slightly humid atmosphere; occasionally mist the foliage.
- Fertilizer: every 3 weeks in spring and summer, with diluted liquid fertilizer.
- Winter rest: reduce watering in autumn and winter.
Decor ideas & plant combinations
With its imposing stature and airy drooping foliage, the Ficus Benjamina Exotica naturally structures the space — a particularly striking effect in large interiors.
- Create a layered plant scene by pairing the Ficus Benjamina with a Monstera Deliciosa at its base and an Areca Palm in the background — a very coherent contrast of textures and heights in terms of care.
- Place it in a living room or office corner in the Elho Brussels Anthracite decorative pot Ø30 cm — the deep gray creates an elegant contrast with the shiny green foliage.
- Pair it with a Philodendron Imperial Green for a duo of large plants with complementary textures — drooping airy foliage on one side, broad upright leaves on the other — in the Elho Greenville White pot Ø30 cm for a clean finish.
- For a bright entrance, place it in the Elho Greenville Leaf Green pot Ø30 cm — the deep green of the pot blends with the Ficus foliage for a sophisticated monochrome effect.
Verdeia tips
- Avoid frequent moves: the Ficus drops leaves at the slightest change of location; choose its permanent spot upon arrival and let it settle.
- Rotate the pot a quarter turn every 15 days for balanced growth toward the light — it’s the only movement the Ficus tolerates without stress.
- Repot every 2 to 3 years in spring into a slightly larger pot — a well-managed repotting with fresh, well-draining substrate restarts growth and maintains a dense habit.

What to do upon receiving my plant?
