Frequently Asked Questions
Why are the fronds of my Korean Fern browning at the tips? Almost always due to air that is too dry or water that is too hard. Regularly mist the foliage and switch to filtered or rainwater. Heating in winter is the most common cause — place a humidifier nearby.
Is the Korean Fern safe for pets? Yes, Polystichum tsussimense is completely non-toxic to cats and dogs — a valuable advantage for homes with pets.

🌿 Delicately finely cut tender green fronds • 🌑 Tolerates shade • 💧 Regular watering • 📏 Compact size H30 cm • 🐾 Non-toxic
The Polystichum tsussimense, or Korean Fern, is a compact fern native to the shaded, humid undergrowth of Korea, Japan, and China. Its finely cut tender green fronds flourish in a dense, graceful rosette — a delicate and airy texture that brings softness and lightness to any indoor space. H30 cm | Pot Ø12 cm.
Non-toxic, easy to care for, excellent shade tolerance. Discover it in our selection of air-purifying plants.
Which indoor fern to choose?
Our catalog offers several ferns with distinct characters:
- Polystichum tsussimense (this plant) — finely cut fronds, compact size H30 cm, excellent shade tolerance. The most delicate and compact.
- Asplenium Nidus — smooth fronds in a shiny green rosette, medium size. The most understated and structured.
- Nephrolepis Green Lady — generous pinnate fronds, trailing habit, large size. The lushest.
- Nephrolepis Green Lady in basket — same variety, ready to place in its natural woven basket. The turnkey decor version.
Exposure & location
- Ideal exposure: partial shade to shade — soft indirect light.
- Tolerates: deep shade — it’s one of the ferns best suited to low-light spaces.
- Avoid: direct sunlight that burns the delicate fronds.
- Temperature: 15–22 °C, without sudden changes.
- Humidity: 60-80% recommended — bathroom or humid space ideal.
The bathroom is its ideal location — the natural humidity suits it perfectly. Check our light and humidity guide to find the right spot.
Watering & care
- Watering: regular — keep the soil slightly moist without soaking.
- Technique: always water around the rosette, never in the center — standing water in the heart causes rot.
- Frequency: 1 to 2 times per week in spring-summer, slightly reduced in winter.
- Humidity: mist the fronds regularly.
- Fertilizer: liquid green plant fertilizer diluted by half, once a month in spring and summer.
- Cleaning: gently remove dead fronds at the base.
Check out our complete watering guide to adjust frequency according to the season.
Decor ideas & plant combinations
Its finely cut fronds create a delicate and airy texture play — a plant that brings lightness where others bring mass.
- On a desk: its compact size (H30 cm) and shade tolerance make it an ideal plant for a low-light desk — air-purifying and very decorative.
- In arrangements: pair it with a Maranta Fascinator or an Asplenium Nidus for a shade plant composition with highly contrasting textures.
- Ideal pot: matte ceramic in white, gray, or terracotta — neutral tones highlight the fineness of the fronds without competing with them.
Its new fronds emerge curled from the center — a fascinating plant spectacle to watch in spring. Find more ferns in our indoor jungle collection.
Verdeia advice
- Never water in the center of the rosette — always water around it. This is the golden rule for this fern — standing water in the heart causes rapid rot.
- High humidity essential — mist regularly or place the plant in a bright bathroom. Too dry air causes brown, brittle fronds.
- 🐾 Non-toxic — Polystichum tsussimense is completely safe for cats and dogs. Check out our plants and pets guide for more pet-friendly ideas.

What to do upon receiving my plant?
