Frequently Asked Questions
Can a Livistona chinensis be placed outdoors in summer? Yes, place it in a sheltered, partially shaded spot from May to September — gradually acclimate it over 2 to 3 weeks to avoid shock and bring it indoors before the first frosts as it only tolerates cool temperatures down to 10 °C.
Why are the tips of my Livistona’s fronds turning brown? Browning tips are almost always caused by hard water or air that is too dry — use filtered or rainwater and increase ambient humidity with regular misting; already browned fronds won’t turn green again but new ones will grow healthy.

🌿 Large bright green fan-shaped fronds • ☀️ Bright light to partial shade • 💧 Regular watering • 🌴 Majestic tropical form • 🐾 Non-toxic
Native to the subtropical regions of Southeast Asia (China, Japan, Taiwan), Livistona chinensis is a fan palm whose large, bright green palmate fronds are deeply divided into segments that droop slightly at the tips - a unique, majestic architectural tropical silhouette. It is one of the most elegant large structural plants and tropical indoor plants in the catalog.
Which Livistona variety should you choose?
Two Livistona species are available in our catalog:
- Livistona chinensis (this plant) - large, broad, deeply divided fronds in intense bright green, with a majestic form (H100 cm | Pot Ø24 cm). The more imposing version, it tolerates cool temperatures down to 10 °C.
- Livistona rotundifolia - more rounded and compact fronds, less deeply divided segments, soft green, with a bushier form (H70 cm | Pot Ø17 cm). The gentler, more compact version, it prefers warmth.
Light & placement
- Light: bright indirect light to partial shade - tolerates a few hours of gentle sun in the morning or late afternoon. Avoid the intense direct midday sun, which can yellow the fronds.
- Ideal for: living room, entryway, office, conservatory, or bright room.
- Temperature: 15 to 25 °C - tolerates cool temperatures down to 10 °C, making it one of the hardiest palms for indoor growing.
- Substrate: rich, well-draining, and slightly acidic - universal potting soil amended with perlite.
Watering & care
- Watering: regular - keep the substrate slightly moist without ever waterlogging it. Palms hate standing water around their base - good drainage is essential to prevent root rot, the foundation of all indoor plant watering.
- Frequency: approximately 1 to 2 times per week in spring and summer, reduced in winter.
- Drainage: essential - pot with drainage holes and well-draining substrate.
- Humidity: appreciates 50–60% humidity - mist occasionally or dust the fronds.
- Fertilizer: once a month in spring and summer, using liquid fertilizer for palms or green plants.
- Water: use filtered or rainwater - hard water gradually browns the tips of the fronds.
Decor ideas & plant pairings
- Structured tropical corner: pair it with a Strelitzia nicolai with large paddle-shaped leaves and a Monstera Deliciosa with split leaves - three very different tropical silhouettes for a monumental tropical-inspired arrangement in a living room corner.
- In an entryway: its tall, slender form and fan-shaped fronds create an instantly recognizable silhouette that welcomes visitors elegantly - it is one of the best large plants for structuring an entryway without obstructing the flow of movement.
- Ideal pot: a large white Brussels for a clean, tropical look, or a jute decorative pot for a more natural, organic feel.
Verdeia tips
- Never cut the palm's heart: the apical meristem at the center of the crown is the plant's only growing point - removing damaged fronds is normal, but cutting the central green heart causes irreversible palm death.
- Gradually move it outdoors in summer: placed in a sheltered, partially shaded spot from May to September, it benefits from natural light and ambient humidity to develop new, more vigorous fronds - acclimatize it over 2 to 3 weeks to prevent shock.
- Use filtered water to preserve the tips: limescale gradually builds up in the fronds and irreversibly browns their ends - rainwater or filtered water is enough to prevent this problem over the long term.

Will the plant look exactly like the photo?
The photos accurately represent the variety and the stated size. Since each plant is unique, slight differences in shape, foliage, or color may occur — and that’s part of their charm.

Shipping is done within 48 business hours, with tracked delivery within 2 to 5 business days. Delivery costs €5.60 — free for orders over €50. You will receive a tracking link as soon as the package is shipped.
What to do upon receiving my plant?
Open your package as soon as you receive it and carefully remove the plant from its packaging. Let it acclimate for 24 hours in its new environment before watering. If it has been slightly stressed during transport, it will recover its shape after one or two days in the light.
What to do if my plant arrives damaged?
Contact us within 48 hours with a photo of the issue. Our team will assess the situation and offer you the best solution: replacement, partial refund, or recovery advice.
