Frequently Asked Questions
Why do green algae appear in my vase? Algae form when the vase gets too much direct light or the water sits too long. Keep vases away from direct sunlight, change the water more often, and clean the sides with a soft sponge when changing the water.
Is the Clusia Syngonium Duo toxic to pets? Yes, both plants are toxic if ingested by dogs and cats. Clusia rosea contains irritating terpenes and Syngonium has calcium oxalates. Keep this duo out of reach of your pets.

💧 Soil-free hydroponic culture • 🌿 Clusia + Syngonium Green • ✨ Glass vases included • 📏 H30 cm | Vases Ø12 cm • 🎁 Ideal gift • ⚠️ Toxic to pets
This hydroponic plant duo brings together two tropical plants with contrasting foliage in their glass vases: the Clusia with glossy dark green fleshy leaves and the Syngonium Green with delicate arrow-shaped foliage. Grown without soil, their roots soak directly in the water — visible through the clear glass, making the water itself a decorative element.
Minimal care, immediate graphic impact, ready to display with nothing to add. Ideal for a desk, shelf, or as a unique plant gift. Discover them in our collection of plants in vases and jars and our selection of ready-to-gift plants.
Which hydroponic duo to choose?
Three glass vase duos are available in our catalog — each offers a different foliage contrast:
- Clusia/Syngonium Green Duo (this product) — glossy fleshy green leaves + delicate arrow-shaped foliage. The most balanced and classic.
- Monstera adansonii/Clusia Duo — graphic perforated leaves + sturdy Clusia. The most contrasting and graphic.
- Monstera adansonii/Syngonium Green Duo — perforated leaves + arrow-shaped foliage. The most airy and light.
The Clusia provides sturdiness and volume, the Syngonium adds lightness and delicacy — a natural complement that works well together.
Exposure & location
The Clusia/Syngonium Duo prefers moderate indirect light. Direct sunlight is doubly discouraged — it burns the Syngonium leaves and promotes algae growth in the water.
- Ideal exposure: bright to moderate indirect light — east- or west-facing window, desk near a window.
- Avoid: prolonged direct sunlight that heats the water, encourages algae growth, and burns the delicate leaves of the Syngonium.
- Temperature: 18–25 °C, with no sudden changes or drafts.
- Humidity: prefers 50–70% ambient humidity — mist the foliage occasionally in dry air.
If green algae appear on the glass walls, it means the vases are getting too much direct light. Move them slightly away from the window.
Hydroponic care
- Water level: keep water halfway up the vase — roots should be submerged, not the plant’s crown.
- Check: monitor the level weekly and top up with room temperature water when it drops.
- Water change: every 2–3 weeks — empty completely, rinse the vase and roots gently, then refill with fresh water.
- Water quality: use filtered water or let tap water sit for 24 hours — limescale can build up on the glass and roots.
- Fertilizer: a few drops of diluted liquid fertilizer once a month in spring and summer to boost growth.
- Algae: if algae appear on the walls, clean with a soft sponge when changing the water.
Hydroponic growing simplifies care to the essentials — no soil, no repotting. The clear glass lets you check water level and root health at a glance.
Decor ideas & combinations
The clear glass and visible roots make the Duo Clusia/Syngonium a decorative arrangement in its own right — not just two plants in pots.
- Placed side by side on a shelf: the two vases form a graphic and cohesive plant diptych. Vary the heights by placing them on different stands for more dynamism.
- Combined with other glass plants: pair them with other sizes from our hydroponic collection to create a modern botanical gallery on a shelf or windowsill.
- As a gift: ready to display, no soil or repotting needed, they make an original and hassle-free plant gift for moving, birthdays, or starting a new job.
Roots growing in water become decorative themselves over time — an evolving display that changes every week.
Verdeia advice
- Change the water regularly — this is rule number one — stagnant water promotes root rot and algae growth. Every 2–3 weeks, always empty and rinse, even if the water still looks clean.
- Brown or soft roots: act quickly — this is a sign of early rot. Immediately remove damaged roots with clean scissors, rinse thoroughly, and completely change the water. Quick action saves the plant.
- The collar must never be submerged — the water level should cover the roots without touching the base of the stems. A collar constantly in water will cause the plant to rot within weeks.
- Acclimate plants upon delivery — leave them for 48 hours in a temperate room before placing them in their final spot. See our new plant welcome guide to get started right.
- ⚠️ Toxic to pets — both Clusia rosea and Syngonium contain irritating compounds that are toxic if ingested by dogs and cats. Keep them out of reach of animals. See our plants and pets guide for suitable alternatives.

Will the plant look exactly like the photo?
The photos accurately represent the variety and the stated size. Since each plant is unique, slight differences in shape, foliage, or color may occur — and that’s part of their charm.
What are the delivery times and conditions?
Shipping is done within 48 business hours, with tracked delivery within 2 to 5 business days. Delivery costs €5.60 — free for orders over €50. You will receive a tracking link as soon as the package is shipped.
What to do upon receiving my plant?
Open your package as soon as you receive it and carefully remove the plant from its packaging. Let it acclimate for 24 hours in its new environment before watering. If it has been slightly stressed during transport, it will recover its shape after one or two days in the light.
What to do if my plant arrives damaged?
Contact us within 48 hours with a photo of the issue. Our team will assess the situation and offer you the best solution: replacement, partial refund, or recovery advice.
Can I return a plant?
Since plants are living beings, standard returns are not possible. However, we guarantee good health upon delivery: if the plant arrives damaged, it will be replaced free of charge. For any other cases (order error, decorative pot, accessory), returns are possible within 14 days.
