Native to the tropical forests of Central and South America, Tradescantia fluminensis 'Yellow Hill' is a variegated selection with large irregular cream-yellow patches on a bright green background — each leaf different from the next. Its fast-growing trailing stems form a very bushy and generous habit, delivered in a hanging pot with hook included, among the largest in our trailing plants collection and our easy-care plants.
Which Tradescantia variety to choose?
Our catalog offers four Tradescantia varieties with very different color palettes:
- Tradescantia fluminensis 'Yellow Hill' (this plant) — dense trailing stems variegated bright green and cream-yellow, very bushy habit, hanging pot with hook (H40 cm | Pot Ø17 cm). The brightest and fullest version.
- Tradescantia zebrina 'Purpusii' — silver-purple striped leaves on top, intense purple underneath (H30 cm | Pot Ø17 cm). The most spectacular version in warm colors.
- Tradescantia 'Brightness' — tricolor leaves in green, pink, and white, compact size (H20 cm | Pot Ø12 cm). The most pastel and delicate version.
- Tradescantia 'Sweetness' — very compact small size with soft tones. The most miniature version.
Light & location
- Light: bright indirect light to bright partial shade — the brighter the light, the more intense and distinct the cream-yellow patches remain from the green. In shade, new shoots tend to gradually turn green.
- Ideal: hanging near a window, high shelf, furniture edge, or bright bathroom.
- Temperature: 15 to 25 °C, without sudden changes.
- Substrate: light and well-draining — universal potting soil mixed with perlite.
Watering & care
- Watering: moderate — allow the substrate to dry slightly between waterings. Its fast growth consumes a lot of water in spring and summer — regularly check the substrate to avoid letting the root ball dry out completely.
- Frequency: about once a week in spring and summer, reduced in winter.
- Drainage: essential — pot with drainage holes and well-draining substrate.
- Humidity: prefers 50–60% humidity, mist occasionally.
- Fertilizer: once a month in spring and summer, diluted liquid fertilizer for green plants.
- Pruning: regularly pinch the tips to encourage branching and maintain the characteristic bushy habit.
Decor ideas & plant combinations
- Bright trailing contrast: pair it with a Tradescantia zebrina 'Purpusii' in purple tones and a Golden Pothos — three trailing plants, three very different palettes (cream-yellow / purple-silver / green-yellow) for a graphic and bright hanging arrangement.
- Hanging: its very bushy habit and freely cascading stems from the included hook create a generous leafy curtain effect — place it 80–100 cm high to let the stems fully spread out.
- Ideal pot: the hanging pot with hook is already included — choose a spot near an East or West-facing window to maximize the intensity of the cream-yellow variegation.
Verdeia tips
- Pinch the stems every 3 to 4 weeks: Tradescantia grows very quickly and thins out at the base if not pinched — pinching the tips triggers branching and maintains the dense bushy habit that is its main decorative quality.
- Propagate easily to rejuvenate the plant: cut 8 to 10 cm stems with well-variegated areas and place them in a glass of water — rooted cuttings in 1 to 2 weeks can be replanted in the original pot to fill in bare spots.
- Keep bright light to preserve variegation: this is the main condition for the cream-yellow patches to remain wide and bright — move it closer to a light source if new leaves grow fully green.

What to do upon receiving my plant?
Open your package as soon as you receive it and carefully remove the plant from its packaging. Let it acclimate for 24 hours in its new environment before watering. If it has been slightly stressed during transport, it will recover its shape after one or two days in the light.
What to do if my plant arrives damaged?
Contact us within 48 hours with a photo of the issue. Our team will assess the situation and offer you the best solution: replacement, partial refund, or recovery advice.
Can I return a plant?
Since plants are living beings, standard returns are not possible. However, we guarantee good health upon delivery: if the plant arrives damaged, it will be replaced free of charge. For any other cases (order error, decorative pot, accessory), returns are possible within 14 days.
