Frequently Asked Questions
Why is my Euphorbia trigona Rubra losing its red color? Lack of light is the main cause — move it to a sunnier spot and the purple coloring will gradually return on new growth.
Is the sap of Euphorbia trigona Rubra dangerous? Yes — its milky sap is irritating to skin and mucous membranes, always wear gloves when repotting or if a stem breaks accidentally.

☀️ Sun / Very bright indoor • 🌵 Intense purple stems • 💧 Low watering • 🪴 Easy care • 📏 H70 cm | Pot Ø17 cm
Euphorbia trigona 'Rubra', also called the Red Candelabra Tree, is the purple variety of Euphorbia trigona — same ribbed angular stems, same vertical candelabra shape, but with a deep red hue that intensifies in sunlight. Native to tropical Africa, it shares the robustness and easy care of all euphorbias. Discover our cactus and succulents collection.
Its difference from the green version is purely chromatic — the more direct light it receives, the more intense its purple coloration becomes. Also find the green Euphorbia trigona H70 cm and the compact H40 cm version to complete your collection.
Exposure & Location
Euphorbia trigona 'Rubra' prefers very bright locations — this is essential for its stems to develop and maintain their intense purple color. In insufficient light, new shoots gradually turn green again.
- Exposure: full sun to very bright indoor — a few hours of direct sun accepted.
- Ideal for: bright living room, veranda, office near a large south-facing window.
- Temperature: 18 to 28 °C — avoid below 12 °C and cold drafts.
- Substrate: light, sandy, and very well-draining — cactus mix.
Watering & Care
- Watering: low — every 2 to 3 weeks in summer, very reduced in winter. Our finger test is especially suitable for this plant.
- Drainage: essential — pot with drainage hole, empty saucer after each watering.
- Fertilizer: once a month from spring to autumn, diluted mild succulent fertilizer.
- Pruning: unnecessary — only remove damaged segments with gloves.
- General care: very easy, suitable for beginners.
Decor Ideas & Plant Combinations
Its deep purple hue makes it a strong color accent — it adds color and character to a green plant arrangement without adding flowers.
- Contrasting duo: pair it with the green Euphorbia trigona — same silhouette, two opposite colors, an immediately effective and coherent duo without other plants.
- Desert trio: pair it with a Sansevieria Zeylanica and an Opuntia Rubescens — three minimal watering plants, three distinct geometric shapes, a low-maintenance composition.
- Decorative pot: a matte beige ceramic or natural terracotta enhances the depth of the purple tones without competing with them.
Verdeia Tips
- More sun = more red: place it in the sunniest spot available — the purple coloration intensifies directly under bright light and fades if the plant lacks sun.
- Wear gloves when handling: its milky sap irritates skin and mucous membranes — protect yourself when repotting or if a stem breaks accidentally.
- A heavy and stable pot: at 70 cm tall the center of gravity is high — a heavy terracotta or stoneware pot prevents tipping risks, especially if you take it outside in summer.

How are my plants prepared before shipping?

Will the plant look exactly like the photo?
The photos accurately represent the variety and the stated size. Since each plant is unique, slight differences in shape, foliage, or color may occur — and that’s part of their charm.
What are the delivery times and conditions?
Shipping is done within 48 business hours, with tracked delivery within 2 to 5 business days. Delivery costs €5.60 — free for orders over €50. You will receive a tracking link as soon as the package is shipped.
What to do upon receiving my plant?
Open your package as soon as you receive it and carefully remove the plant from its packaging. Let it acclimate for 24 hours in its new environment before watering. If it has been slightly stressed during transport, it will recover its shape after one or two days in the light.
What to do if my plant arrives damaged?
Contact us within 48 hours with a photo of the issue. Our team will assess the situation and offer you the best solution: replacement, partial refund, or recovery advice.
Can I return a plant?
Since plants are living beings, standard returns are not possible. However, we guarantee good health upon delivery: if the plant arrives damaged, it will be replaced free of charge. For any other cases (order error, decorative pot, accessory), returns are possible within 14 days.
