Frequently Asked Questions
Can a Syngonium be trained to climb or trail? Yes, depending on the support you provide — it naturally climbs a moss stake or gracefully trails when hanging, revealing all the shades of its foliage.
Why do the edges of my Syngonium’s leaves turn brown? Brown edges indicate the air is too dry — increase humidity by regularly misting the foliage or grouping the plant with other greenery.

🌿 Pink and copper arrow-shaped leaves • 🎨 Evolving shimmering shades • ☀️ Soft to bright light • 💧 Moderate watering • 📏 H25 cm | Pot Ø14 cm
Syngonium Maria, also called Copper Pink Goosefoot, is a tropical plant native to the forests of Central and South America. Its arrow-shaped leaves with pink, copper, and green reflections change with age — young leaves emerge copper-colored, then gradually turn pinkish green, offering a renewed display over the weeks. Discover it among our indoor tropical plants.
Compact and colorful, it adapts well to both potted and hanging cultivation.
Exposure & Location
Syngonium Maria enjoys soft to bright light without direct sun. The more light it receives, the more intense its pink and copper shades become — in too dark a setting, the foliage fades and turns uniformly green. The balance of light and humidity is crucial to maintain the brightness of its colors.
- Exposure: soft to bright indirect light — avoid direct sun which burns its delicate leaves.
- Location: shelf, side table, desk, or sheer-window sill.
- Temperature: 18–27 °C, no cold drafts.
- Humidity: prefers a slightly humid atmosphere — mist regularly.
The brighter and more indirect the light, the more intense the pink and copper reflections of the foliage — place it near a sheer window to reveal all its shades.
Watering & Care
Syngonium Maria likes a substrate that is slightly moist at all times but never waterlogged. Overwatering causes yellowing leaves and promotes root rot — it’s better to underwater than overwater, as our guide on watering indoor plants reminds us.
- Frequency: 1 to 2 times per week in summer, less often in winter.
- Leaf humidity: mist regularly — dry air causes damaged leaves with brown edges.
- Care: pinch stems to encourage branching and maintain a compact, dense shape.
- Cleaning: wipe leaves with a soft damp cloth to preserve their shine.
If leaves fade or lose their pink reflections, it’s almost always due to lack of light — move the plant closer to a window and the colors will return within weeks.
Decor Ideas & Plant Pairings
The warm and pink tones of Syngonium Maria naturally break the monotony of green in plant arrangements. Its arrow-shaped leaves create an effective shape contrast with round or broad foliage.
- On a bright shelf, place it in the white Gabriel round ceramic pot Ø14 cm — the matte white highlights the pink and copper reflections of the foliage in a clean, modern composition.
- For a warm match, slip it into the ochre Gabriel ceramic pot Ø14 cm — the warmth of matte ochre naturally complements the copper tones of the Syngonium for a coherent, green ensemble.
- For a refined tropical composition, pair it with a Maranta Fascinator — the green and pink graphic patterns of the Maranta harmonize with the pink reflections of the Syngonium for a tropical duo balanced in texture and color.
- For a shape contrast, place it near an Asplenium Nidus — the broad, smooth rosette of the fern contrasts with the shimmering arrow-shaped leaves of the Syngonium, two opposite silhouettes that naturally complement each other.
To create a coherent tropical atmosphere, pair Syngonium with plants that enjoy the same soft light and ambient humidity.
Verdeia Tips
- Pinch stems to thicken growth: Syngonium naturally grows as a vine — pinching the stem tips in spring stimulates branching and results in a more compact, bushy plant.
- Maintain high ambient humidity: brown, dry leaf edges indicate air that is too dry — mist 2 to 3 times a week or group it with other plants to create a humid microclimate.
- Provide sufficient light: pink and copper colors fade without adequate light — a well-exposed sheer window is essential to maintain the intensity of this variety’s characteristic hues.
