🌿 Large bright green wavy leaves • 🌑 Partial shade to shade • 💧 Regular watering • 📏 D17 x H45 cm • 🧺 Selin black basket D18 cm included • 🐾 Non-toxic
The Asplenium Antiquum, or Bird's Nest Fern, is a tropical fern native to Southeast Asia. Its large, elongated, broad, and slightly wavy bright green leaves give it a generous and architectural shape — more airy than the classic Asplenium Nidus. This product comes ready to display in its Selin black woven basket D18 cm.
Non-toxic to pets, tolerant of low light, air-purifying. Discover it in our pet-friendly selection.
Which Asplenium variety to choose?
The Asplenium genus includes several ferns with very distinct foliage. Here are the available profiles:
- Asplenium Antiquum (this plant) — large, broad, slightly wavy leaves, generous and airy shape, D17 x H45 cm. The most architectural.
- Asplenium Crispy Wave — very wavy and curly leaves, compact size D12 x H25 cm. The most graphic.
- Asplenium Nidus — broad, smooth leaves, classic shape. The most understated.
- Asplenium Parvati — deeply cut and curly leaves, very bushy appearance. The fullest.
- Asplenium Campio — broad, long leaves, impressive size D17 x H50 cm. The largest.
Other varieties are available in our full fern collection — Osaka, Nidus Crissie, and more.
The Selin black basket — included
This product comes with the Selin black woven basket D18 cm — a decorative pot made of natural woven fibers in a chevron pattern, black and beige mottled tones.
- Diameter: 18 cm — sized to fit a D17 cm growing pot.
- Height: 16 cm.
- Material: braided natural fibers.
- Colors: black and beige mottled.
The Selin basket blends with all decorative styles — minimalist, bohemian, or urban jungle. It can be used alone as a decorative pot for other plants once repotted.
Exposure & placement
The Asplenium Antiquum naturally grows in humid tropical undergrowth — it is made for low-light spaces.
- Ideal exposure: Partial shade to shade — soft indirect light, away from windows.
- Tolerates: low light, including artificial light alone.
- Avoid: direct sunlight that burns and fades the leaves.
- Temperature: 18–25 °C, no drafts or sudden changes.
- Humidity: high — mist regularly or place near a humidifier.
A bright bathroom is the ideal location — the natural humidity after showers suits it perfectly without extra effort.
Watering & care
- Watering: regular — keep the soil slightly moist without ever soaking it.
- Frequency: 1 to 2 times per week in spring and summer, reduced in winter.
- Water: non-calcareous water — filtered or rainwater. Calcium causes brown spots on leaves.
- Drainage: pot with drainage holes required — empty the Selin basket after watering.
- Fertilizer: diluted liquid green plant fertilizer, once a month in spring and summer.
Never pour water directly into the center of the rosette — always water around the plant to prevent rot. Check out our complete watering guide to adjust frequency according to the season.
Verdeia Tips
- Do not touch the center of the rosette — stagnant water in the center of the plant causes rot. Always water around the edge of the soil, never directly into the rosette.
- Calcium is its enemy — brown spots on leaf edges, slowed growth. Switch to filtered or overnight-settled water if your water is calcareous.
- Essential humidity — in heated apartments during winter, dry air causes brown tips on leaves. Mist 2 to 3 times a week or use a humidifier.
- Repot every 2 years — in spring, using a light, well-drained substrate. Choose a slightly larger pot. See our new plant welcome guide to get started right.
- 🐾 Non-toxic — Asplenium is completely safe for dogs and cats. Check our plants and pets guide for more pet-friendly ideas.

FAQ – Everything to know before adopting your Verdeia plant
How are my plants prepared before shipping?
All our plants are selected from our European partner nurseries. Before shipping, they are watered, cleaned, and protected with breathable, secure packaging. Each package is designed to ensure your plant arrives in perfect health, without any transport-related stress.
Will the plant look exactly like the photo?
The photos accurately represent the variety and the stated size. Since each plant is unique, slight differences in shape, foliage, or color may occur — and that’s part of their charm.
What are the delivery times and conditions?
Shipping is done within 48 business hours, with tracked delivery within 2 to 5 business days. Delivery costs €5.60 — free for orders over €50. You will receive a tracking link as soon as the package is shipped.
What to do upon receiving my plant?
Open your package as soon as you receive it and carefully remove the plant from its packaging. Let it acclimate for 24 hours in its new environment before watering. If it has been slightly stressed during transport, it will recover its shape after one or two days in the light.
What to do if my plant arrives damaged?
Contact us within 48 hours with a photo of the issue. Our team will assess the situation and offer you the best solution: replacement, partial refund, or recovery advice.
Can I return a plant?
Since plants are living beings, standard returns are not possible. However, we guarantee good health upon delivery: if the plant arrives damaged, it will be replaced free of charge. For any other cases (order error, decorative pot, accessory), returns are possible within 14 days.
