Frequently Asked Questions
Why do the leaves of an indoor Ficus fall after delivery? This is a normal reaction to the change of environment — place it immediately in its permanent, stable, and bright location without moving it again.
Can the Ficus Moclame grow in a low-light room? It tolerates partial shade but gradually loses its dense foliage and vigor — a well-lit room with indirect light is essential to maintain the compact shape of its crown.

🌿 Dense, glossy green rounded foliage • 🌀 Characteristic braided trunk • ☀️ Bright indirect light • 💧 Moderate watering • 📏 H110 cm | Pot Ø23 cm
Ficus microcarpa 'Moclame' stands out with its immediately recognizable silhouette: a twisted braided trunk topped with a dense, compact crown of foliage, with small round glossy green leaves. Native to Southeast Asia, it grows naturally in tropical forests as an epiphyte or along forest edges. Pair it with other Ficus varieties.
More compact than Ficus Benjamina and more structured than Ficus Lyrata, Moclame fits perfectly into bright interiors, where it creates a balanced botanical presence without taking up too much space.
Which Ficus variety should you choose?
The Ficus genus offers great diversity in shapes, sizes, and textures — all varieties are available in the Ficus collection. Here is how Ficus microcarpa 'Moclame' stands out from the others:
- Ficus microcarpa 'Moclame' (this plant) — twisted braided trunk, compact rounded foliage, small round glossy green leaves, slow growth. The most structured and sculptural version.
- Ficus Benjamina 'Danielle' — small, glossy dark-green leaves, an elegant weeping habit, and a single trunk. The classic weeping version.
- Ficus Benjamina 'Twilight' — variegated green and creamy-white leaves with a bright weeping habit. The airy variegated version.
- Branched Ficus Lyrata — very large, lyre-shaped leaves in matte dark green, with an architectural upright habit. The XXL graphic version.
- Ficus Elastica Robusta — large, fleshy, glossy dark-green leaves with a majestic upright habit. The classic rubber plant version.
- Ficus Elastica Belize — fleshy variegated leaves in green, pink, and cream. The spectacular colorful version.
- Ficus Benghalensis 'Audrey' 3 stems — large, velvety medium-green leaves with light veins, 3 trunks. The large-format velvety version.
Display & placement
Ficus microcarpa 'Moclame' thrives in stable, bright indirect light. It tolerates partial shade, but its dense, compact foliage is maintained much better near a well-lit window. The key with this Ficus: avoid moving it — like all Ficus plants, it reacts to a change of location by dropping leaves and is highly sensitive to the balance between light and humidity for indoor plants.
- Light exposure: bright indirect light — avoid direct sun, which can scorch the leaves.
- Location: bright living room, entryway, or office facing east or west.
- Temperature: 18–24 °C, without sudden changes or drafts.
- Humidity: average — light misting 1 to 2 times a week is beneficial.
Turn it a quarter turn every two weeks to encourage even crown growth — without rotation, the foliage grows asymmetrically toward the light source.
Watering & care
The Moclame requires moderate, regular watering — let the surface of the substrate dry out between waterings. Excess water is the main cause of yellowing and leaf drop: watering indoor plants should be guided by how quickly the substrate dries. In winter, water less frequently.
- Frequency: every 10 to 12 days in spring and summer, and every 2 to 3 weeks in winter.
- Drainage: essential — use a pot with drainage holes and a well-draining substrate.
- Cleaning: wipe the leaves with a soft, damp cloth to preserve their shine.
- Fertilizer: once a month from April to September, using liquid fertilizer diluted by half.
- Pruning: possible in spring to maintain the compact shape of the crown.
If leaves fall after delivery, don't panic — this is a normal reaction to a change in environment. Place it in its permanent location as soon as it arrives and don't move it again.
Decor ideas & plant pairings
The Ficus Moclame's lollipop silhouette — a twisted braided trunk topped with a ball of dense foliage — makes it a sculptural plant that structures a space without visually weighing it down. Its glossy green foliage naturally complements neutral tones and natural materials.
- In a bright living room, place it in the taupe Capi Nature Groove pot — the ribbed texture and neutral taupe shade highlight the braided trunk and ground the arrangement in a natural, contemporary style.
- For a balanced plant arrangement, pair it with a ZZ Plant on the floor - the upright stems and glossy leaves of the Zamioculcas contrast with the compact spherical shape of the Moclame for a graphic, resilient duo.
- In a bright entryway, place it opposite a Kentia Palm - the lightness of the Kentia's fronds contrasts with the compact density of the Moclame's crown, two opposing silhouettes for a very elegant plant-filled entryway effect.
- For a more compact size, the Ficus Moclame Ø21 cm H95 cm offers the same braided silhouette in a more accessible format, ideal for an office or a bright low shelf.
Verdeia tips
- Choose its permanent location upon delivery: Ficus Moclame is sensitive to changes in its environment - each move may cause leaf drop. Place it once and for all in a stable, bright location.
- Always check the substrate before watering: insert your finger 3–4 cm deep - if it is still damp, wait a little longer. Leaf drop accompanied by constantly wet substrate indicates overwatering, which should be corrected immediately.
- Repot only when the roots outgrow the pot: Moclame prefers a slightly tight pot and grows slowly - repotting too early into a large pot encourages excessive root moisture. Repotting indoor plants should be done in spring, when the roots fill the pot.
