Frequently Asked Questions
Is Polyscias a difficult plant to care for? It is more demanding than average — it requires high humidity, stability, and no direct sunlight. In a heated apartment, a nearby humidifier is highly recommended. Under these conditions, it is sturdy and long-lasting.
What is the difference between Polyscias fruticosa and Polyscias Fabian? The Fruticosa has finely divided dark green foliage with an airy and graceful habit. The Fabian has round purple and green leaves with a more compact and graphic form. The Fruticosa is lighter and more elegant, the Fabian denser and more colorful.

🌿 Finely cut, airy, and elegant foliage • 🌴 Graceful shrubby shape • ☀️ Indirect to partial shade light • 💧 Moderate watering • 💨 Prefers high humidity
The Polyscias fruticosa, or Aralia, is an architectural tropical plant native to the tropical regions of Africa, Asia, and the Pacific. Its branched stems carry finely cut dark green compound leaves that create an airy, light foliage — an elegant and sophisticated plant silhouette, halfway between a shrub and a bonsai. H75 cm | Pot Ø21 cm.
Discover it in our large XXL plants collection.
Which Polyscias variety should you choose?
The Polyscias genus comes in several distinct foliage types and shapes:
- Polyscias fruticosa (this plant) — finely cut dark green foliage, graceful shrubby shape. The most elegant and airy.
- Polyscias Fabian — round purple and green leaves, compact and graphic shape. The most colorful.
- Polyscias Balfouriana — round variegated green and white leaves, compact size. The brightest.
- Polyscias Hawaiiana 'Ming' — ultra-fine, delicate foliage, airy feather effect. The most delicate.
- Polyscias 'Ming Gold' Bonsai — golden foliage, compact bonsai shape. The most original.
- Polyscias Roble — tender green cut foliage, slender shape. The most understated.
Exposure & location
- Ideal exposure: soft indirect light to partial shade — never direct sunlight.
- Ideal: bright living room, office, bedroom, or hallway with filtered light.
- Temperature: 18–25 °C, with no sudden changes or drafts.
- Humidity: 60-70% recommended — mist regularly or place near a humidifier.
- Stability: avoid frequent moves — Polyscias loses leaves with sudden environmental changes.
Turn the pot a quarter turn every 2-3 weeks for even growth. Check out our light and humidity guide to find the right spot.
Watering & care
- Watering: moderate — keep the soil slightly moist without ever soaking it.
- Frequency: 1 to 2 times a week in spring-summer, reduced in winter.
- Drainage: pot must have drainage holes.
- Humidity: regularly mist the delicate foliage.
- Fertilizer: diluted liquid green plant fertilizer, once a month in spring and summer.
- Cleaning: regularly dust the fine foliage to improve photosynthesis.
Leaf drop after moving or a change of environment is normal — the Polyscias gradually adapts. Check our diagnostic guide if the leaf drop continues.
Decor ideas & plant combinations
Its airy, light foliage contrasts beautifully with plants that have broad, dense leaves — it adds lightness to any plant arrangement.
- As a solitary plant: in a matte ceramic pot in white, gray, or terracotta, its graceful silhouette creates an elegant architectural focal point in a living room or office.
- In a jungle arrangement: pair it with a Schefflera or a Dracaena marginata for a trio of architectural plants with very distinct silhouettes.
- Style: elegant, sophisticated, bohemian — its delicate foliage fits perfectly in interiors with natural materials.
Its finely cut foliage creates a very decorative light and shadow effect — place it near a light source to fully enjoy this effect. Find other large plants in our indoor jungle collection.
Verdeia advice
- Don’t move too often — Polyscias is sensitive to environmental changes and may lose leaves with each move. Choose its permanent spot from the start.
- High humidity essential — dry air causes delicate leaves to drop. A humidifier nearby is the most effective solution in heated apartments.
- Repot every 2-3 years — in spring into a slightly larger pot. See our repotting guide for proper steps.

Will the plant look exactly like the photo?
The photos accurately represent the variety and the stated size. Since each plant is unique, slight differences in shape, foliage, or color may occur — and that’s part of their charm.
What are the delivery times and conditions?
Shipping is done within 48 business hours, with tracked delivery within 2 to 5 business days. Delivery costs €5.60 — free for orders over €50. You will receive a tracking link as soon as the package is shipped.
What to do upon receiving my plant?
Open your package as soon as you receive it and carefully remove the plant from its packaging. Let it acclimate for 24 hours in its new environment before watering. If it has been slightly stressed during transport, it will recover its shape after one or two days in the light.
What to do if my plant arrives damaged?
Contact us within 48 hours with a photo of the issue. Our team will assess the situation and offer you the best solution: replacement, partial refund, or recovery advice.
Can I return a plant?
