Frequently asked questions
How often should you water a Sansevieria Zeylanica? Every 2 to 3 weeks in spring and summer, making sure the soil is completely dry before watering — in winter, space out watering even more.
Can you place a Sansevieria Zeylanica in a room without windows? It tolerates low light better than almost any other plant, but total darkness will eventually weaken it — a room with a window, even if dimly lit, is still preferable.

🌿 Upright marbled green and silver foliage • ☀️ Bright light to partial shade • 💧 Low watering needs • 🌱 Ultra easy
The Sansevieria Zeylanica, also known as Mother-in-law's tongue, stands out from other Sansevierias with its irregular green and silver marbled patterns — foliage that is more “wild” and natural than varieties with regular borders, such as Laurentii or Whitney. Native to the arid tropical regions of Africa and South Asia, it naturally grows in rocky, dry areas. Pair it with Sansevierias, among the 10 easy-care plants.
Hardy, adaptable, and nearly indestructible, it is equally suited to apartments and offices, even those with little light. A reliable choice among plants for dark rooms.
Light & placement
Sansevieria Zeylanica adapts to almost any light conditions — from full sun to pronounced partial shade. It is one of the few plants that maintains its marbled patterns even in low-light rooms.
- Light: bright light to partial shade — tolerates low light; avoid complete darkness.
- Ideal for: living room, entryway, bedroom, office, poorly lit hallway.
- Temperature: 15 to 28 °C, away from cold drafts.
- Substrate: light and very well-draining — cactus soil with sand or perlite.
Watering & care
- Watering: low — every 2 to 3 weeks in spring and summer; let the substrate dry out completely between waterings. Our finger test is the most reliable method for this type of plant.
- Drainage: essential — use a pot with drainage holes and very well-draining substrate; never let water collect in the saucer.
- Fertilizer: once a month in spring and summer, using a gentle fertilizer for green plants at a low dose.
- Cleaning: wipe the leaves with a damp cloth to preserve the shine of the marbled patterns.
- Repotting: only every 3 to 4 years — it likes being slightly root-bound.
Decor ideas & plant pairings
Its irregular marbled patterns give it a more natural and less graphic appearance than other Sansevierias — it fits equally well into a minimalist setting or a more organic plant arrangement.
- In a low-maintenance graphic trio: pair it with a Zamioculcas and a bright silver Sansevieria Moonshine — three ultra-easy plants, three different textures, and the same minimal-watering routine.
- In a Sansevieria collection: pair it with the Sansevieria Laurentii with golden borders — the Zeylanica's marbled patterns and Laurentii's regular borders create a contrasting duo within the same genus.
- Decorative pot: a matte ceramic pot, natural terracotta, or light concrete highlights the marbled patterns without competing with them.
Verdeia tips
- Water less than you think: root rot caused by excess water is the only real danger for this plant — wait until the substrate is completely dry throughout before watering again.
- Rotate the pot regularly: monthly rotation ensures symmetrical growth — otherwise, the leaves lean toward the light and the silhouette gradually becomes distorted.
- Ideal for challenging spaces: dark hallway, windowless office, poorly lit entryway — Sansevieria Zeylanica tolerates conditions in which most plants would decline.

How are my plants prepared before shipping?
All our plants are selected from our European partner nurseries. Before shipping, they are watered, cleaned, and protected with breathable, secure packaging. Each package is designed to ensure your plant arrives in perfect health, without any transport-related stress.
Will the plant look exactly like the photo?
The photos accurately represent the variety and the stated size. Since each plant is unique, slight differences in shape, foliage, or color may occur — and that’s part of their charm.
What are the delivery times and conditions?
Orders ship within 48 working hours, with tracked delivery in 2 to 5 working days via DPD. Shipping costs and the free-shipping threshold depend on your country — see our delivery page. You receive a tracking link as soon as your parcel leaves.
What should I do when my plant arrives?
Open your package as soon as you receive it and carefully remove the plant from its packaging. Let it acclimate for 24 hours in its new environment before watering. If it has been slightly stressed during transport, it will recover its shape after one or two days in the light.
What should I do if my plant arrives damaged?
Contact us within 48 hours with a photo of the issue. Our team will assess the situation and offer you the best solution: replacement, partial refund, or recovery advice.
Can I return a plant?
Since plants are living beings, standard returns are not possible. However, we guarantee good health upon delivery: if the plant arrives damaged, it will be replaced free of charge. For any other cases (order error, decorative pot, accessory), returns are possible within 14 days.
