Which plants are suitable for a bathroom?

Ferns (Asplenium, Nephrolepis): love humidity. Calathea and Maranta: graphic foliage that thrives in humidity. Pothos: ultra-easy and tolerant. Philodendron: fast growth in humid environments. Orchids: bloom better with ambient humidity. Pilea and Peperomia: compact for small spaces. All appreciate the natural humidity of the bathroom.

Can you put plants in a bathroom without a window?

Yes, but with artificial lighting. Keep the light on 8-10 hours a day or install a horticultural LED. Choose plants tolerant of low light: Pothos, Philodendron scandens, Asplenium Nidus, Sansevieria. The bathroom humidity partially compensates for the lack of natural light.

Why do plants like the bathroom?

The natural bathroom humidity (60-80% after a shower) replicates their original tropical habitat. They don’t need additional misting. The stable temperature (18-24°C) suits them perfectly. It’s the ideal environment for tropical plants that often suffer from dry air in other rooms.

How many plants should you have in a bathroom?

Small bathroom: 2-3 plants (1 medium + 2 small). Medium bathroom: 4-6 plants (1-2 large + 3-4 small). Large bathroom: 6-10 plants (2-3 large + 4-7 small). Vary heights (floor, shelves, hanging) to create a jungle without clutter.

Where should you place plants in the bathroom?

Window sill (if present): medium plants. Wall shelves: small plants (Pilea, Peperomia). Shower/bathtub corner: large plants (ferns, Monstera) that benefit from steam. Hanging pots: trailing plants (Pothos, Philodendron). Sink cabinet: compact plants. Avoid immediate proximity to direct splashes.

Do bathroom plants need watering?

Yes, but less frequently. Ambient humidity reduces watering needs. Check the soil before watering (should be dry on the surface). Water about once a week in summer, every 10-15 days in winter. Air humidity does not replace watering the substrate.

Which plants are good for a dark bathroom?

Pothos: champion of humid shade. Philodendron scandens: tolerates low light. Asplenium Nidus (bird’s nest fern): thrives in shade. Sansevieria: ultra-resilient. Aglaonema: colorful foliage even in shade. Zamioculcas: tough in difficult conditions. All tolerate shade AND love humidity.

Can plants tolerate shower steam?

Yes, they love it! Steam temporarily raises humidity to 80-90%, which benefits tropical plants. Just avoid hot water directly on leaves. Place plants at least 30-50 cm from the shower spray. Regular steam stimulates growth and prevents pests (red spider mites).

How do you care for bathroom plants?

Dust leaves monthly (humidity encourages deposits). Water when soil is dry on the surface. Fertilize once a month in spring-summer (growth boosted by humidity). Air out regularly to prevent mold. Remove dead leaves quickly. Check pot drainage (high humidity + poor drainage = root rot).
