The Syngonium, nicknamed the "arrow plant" or "goose foot," is a tropical chameleon. Compact and bushy when young, it develops climbing stems as it grows — and its leaves change shape at the same time, shifting from simple arrows to cut lobes. All in a color palette ranging from deep green to neon pink.

Our Syngonium Varieties

The Syngonium Arrow is the classic: arrow-shaped leaves, dark green with silver veins, a compact form that turns into a vigorous climber over time. The Syngonium Neon is the social media star with its entirely bright pink foliage — an intense, uniform pink that stands out. The Syngonium Golden brings bright golden and chartreuse tones. The Syngonium Red Heart combines deep green with coppery red shades. The Syngonium Maria offers a more subtle, velvety coppery pink. The Syngonium White Butterfly is one of the most elegant with its cream-white leaves edged in green. And the Syngonium Pixie, the most compact of all, stays small and bushy — perfect for a desk or shelf. The Syngonium Mottled completes the range with its original speckled foliage.

Climbing or Compact: You Choose

This is the great strength of the Syngonium: it adapts to the role you give it. Let it climb a moss pole and it will develop increasingly large and cut leaves — a very spectacular effect. Regularly prune the stems to keep it compact and bushy. Or let it cascade down from a high shelf. It excels in all three setups. Find our other climbers in the hanging and trailing plants collection and read our guide hanging plants: the best species.

Syngonium Care

Syngonium is one of the easiest tropical plants to care for. Water when the top 2 centimeters of the soil dry out — in practice, once or twice a week in summer, once a week in winter. It appreciates good ambient humidity: mist the foliage occasionally or place it in a naturally humid room (kitchen, bathroom). A classic well-draining potting mix suits it well. Our complete watering guide details best practices.

Light: Tolerant but Not Indifferent

Syngonium tolerates a wide range of light conditions, from bright indirect light to partial shade. The colorful varieties (Neon, Golden, Maria) retain their hues better in bright light, while the green varieties (Arrow, Pixie) do very well in less bright corners. Avoid direct sunlight, which burns the leaves. It’s an excellent plant for north-facing rooms or recessed spots. Check out our article light and humidity: finding the right balance and our plants for shade and partial shade collection.

Propagating a Syngonium

Syngonium is surprisingly easy to propagate. Cut a stem just below a node (the point where aerial roots emerge), place it in water, and white roots appear within one to two weeks. Syngonium Neon cuttings in a transparent pot also make an original gift. The Pixie variety is also available in a hydroponic version, grown directly in water. See our complete propagation guide for detailed technique.

Pairing Syngonium in Your Interior

Syngonium naturally pairs well with other tropical aroids. Combine a bright pink Neon with a deep green Philodendron and a variegated Aglaonema for a contrasting trio. Add a Monstera for volume and a Calathea for patterns — the result is a tropical composition rich in colors and textures.
