Frequently Asked Questions
Can Aglaonema live in a bathroom without a window? It tolerates low light better than almost any other houseplant, but some light is still necessary. Without any natural light at all, growth gradually stops. Daylight LED artificial lighting can partially compensate.
Why are the silver highlights on my Aglaonema fading? The silver highlights turn green due to lack of light — move the plant closer to a source of indirect light. Hard water can also dull the foliage — switch to filtered or rainwater.

🥈 Dark green foliage with silver reflections • 🌑 Tolerates low light • 💧 Moderate watering • 🌬️ Air-purifying • ⚠️ Toxic to pets
The Aglaonema 'Maria', or Chinese Plant, is a tropical plant native to the shaded forests of Southeast Asia. Its large, dark green lance-shaped leaves are marked with silver patches and reflections that create elegant and bright foliage — discreet yet refined. Available in two sizes.
Air-purifying, very tolerant, easy to care for. Discover it in our complete Aglaonema collection.
Which Aglaonema variety to choose?
The Aglaonema genus offers a wide variety of foliage. Here are the available profiles:
- Aglaonema 'Maria' (this plant) — dark green with soft silver reflections, compact habit. The most understated and calming.
- Aglaonema 'Silver Bay' — wide central silver band on a green background. The most structured.
- Aglaonema 'Silver Queen' — foliage almost entirely silver. The most silvery.
- Aglaonema 'Jungle Silver' — large, highly contrasting silver areas. The most graphic.
- Aglaonema 'Spring Red' — bright pink veins and edges. The most colorful.
- Aglaonema 'Green Lady' — green foliage with slight variegation, large size. The most classic.
Other varieties are available in our catalog — White Kiwi, White Joy, Greenlight, BJ Freedman, and more.
Exposure & location
- Ideal exposure: moderate to low indirect light.
- Tolerates: low light, partial shade — ideal for dimly lit rooms.
- Avoid: direct sunlight that burns the leaves and dulls the silver reflections.
- Temperature: 18–25 °C, without sudden changes.
- Humidity: prefers 50–70% — mist occasionally.
Its silver reflections bring light even to dark rooms — a valuable decorative advantage. Check out our light and humidity guide to find the best spot.
Watering & care
- Watering: moderate — let the surface of the soil dry slightly between waterings.
- Frequency: once a week in spring and summer, reduced in winter.
- Water: preferably non-calcareous water — lime dulls the silver reflections.
- Drainage: pot must have drainage holes.
- Fertilizer: diluted liquid green plant fertilizer, once a month in spring and summer.
- Cleaning: gently wipe the leaves with a damp cloth to preserve the silver shine.
Aglaonema easily forgives missed waterings — its roots store reserves. Check out our complete watering guide to adjust the frequency.
Decor ideas & plant pairings
Its subtle and refined silver foliage fits into any decor style without ever dominating.
- At the office: tolerant of low light and air-purifying — perfect for a dimly lit workspace.
- In an arrangement: pair it with an Aglaonema Spring Red for a striking contrast of silver against bright pink — same family, identical care.
- Ideal pot: matte white, gray, or black ceramic — neutral tones highlight the silver reflections without competing with them.
Combine several varieties of Aglaonemas to create a diverse arrangement with the same care requirements.
Verdeia tips
- Silver reflections turn green without light — if new leaves lose their silver shine, move the plant closer to a source of indirect light.
- Overwatering is its only real risk — wait until the surface is dry before watering. See our diagnosis guide to quickly identify any issues.
- Repot every 2-3 years — in spring, using a light, well-draining substrate. See our repotting guide for proper steps.
- ⚠️ Toxic to pets — keep out of reach of cats and dogs. See our plants and pets guide for suitable alternatives.

Will the plant look exactly like the photo?
The photos accurately represent the variety and the stated size. Since each plant is unique, slight differences in shape, foliage, or color may occur — and that’s part of their charm.

Shipping is done within 48 business hours, with tracked delivery within 2 to 5 business days. Delivery costs €5.60 — free for orders over €50. You will receive a tracking link as soon as the package is shipped.
What to do upon receiving my plant?
Open your package as soon as you receive it and carefully remove the plant from its packaging. Let it acclimate for 24 hours in its new environment before watering. If it has been slightly stressed during transport, it will recover its shape after one or two days in the light.
What to do if my plant arrives damaged?
Contact us within 48 hours with a photo of the issue. Our team will assess the situation and offer you the best solution: replacement, partial refund, or recovery advice.
Can I return a plant?
