Frequently Asked Questions
Should a Ficus Ginseng be pruned to maintain its shape? Yes — regularly pinch young shoots above a node to keep a compact shape and encourage branching, otherwise the plant develops long, sparsely leafed branches.
What is the difference between the Ficus Ginseng H40 cm and the Ficus Ginseng H70 cm? They are the same cultivar at two different stages of development — the H40 cm size is ideal for a desk or console, the H70 cm is a centerpiece for a living room or entryway.

🌿 Sculptural trunk with visible aerial swollen roots • ☀️ Bright indirect light • 💧 Moderate watering • 🎋 Zen bonsai spirit • 📏 H40 cm | Pot Ø17 cm
Ficus microcarpa 'Ginseng' is an iconic indoor plant native to tropical and subtropical Asia, known for its sculptural trunk with swollen visible roots that evoke the ancient art of bonsai. Unlike traditional bonsais that require years of training, this Ficus Ginseng instantly offers the zen and sculptural aesthetic of bonsai with simple care. Discover our collection of collector plants.
This H40 cm | Pot Ø17 cm size is the ideal compact format for a desk or console — the large format H70 cm | Pot Ø27 cm is available in the large format Ficus Ginseng. Our beginner’s guide explains why Ficus Ginseng is a reliable choice.
Exposure & Location
Ficus microcarpa 'Ginseng' prefers bright indirect light — good brightness keeps the foliage dense and shiny and slows leaf drop. Do not move the plant frequently: it dislikes sudden changes in environment.
- Exposure: bright indirect to bright partial shade — avoid harsh direct sunlight.
- Ideal for: bright living room, office, entry console, room corner near an east or west-facing window.
- Temperature: 16 to 25 °C, without sudden changes or cold drafts.
- Substrate: rich, well-drained, and slightly acidic — potting soil for green plants mixed with perlite.
Watering & Care
- Watering: moderate — let the top 2 to 3 cm of substrate dry out between waterings. Reduce watering and fertilizing in autumn and winter. Our easy plants guide details why Ficus Ginseng is one of the best plants for urban interiors.
- Drainage: essential — pot with drainage hole and saucer, empty excess water after each watering.
- Fertilizer: every 2 to 3 weeks in spring and summer, balanced liquid fertilizer diluted.
- Pruning: pinch young shoots to maintain a compact shape and encourage branching.
- Cleaning: regularly clean leaves with a damp cloth to preserve their shine.
Decor Ideas & Plant Combinations
Its sculptural trunk is a unique plant sculpture — each specimen is different and deserves a special place where its silhouette can be admired from all angles. Our guide to choosing the right decorative pot will help you find the container that best highlights its visible roots.
- In a minimalist zen composition: pair it with a Zamioculcas with glossy graphic foliage and a Pilea peperomioides with round leaves — three very different shapes and textures, creating an immediate zen and minimalist vibe.
- As a solo statement piece: placed alone in a natural Selin basket on a console — the sculptural trunk of the Ficus Ginseng stands on its own and doesn’t need companions to create a strong visual impact.
- Decorative pot: a matte ceramic in white, gray, or beige highlights the sculptural trunk without competing — our decorative pot guide will guide your choice.
Verdeia Tips
- Choose a permanent location: Ficus Ginseng hates being moved — leaf drop after purchase is normal and means the plant is adapting to its new environment; it stabilizes within a few weeks if conditions are good.
- Never cut aerial roots: the swollen visible roots are the main sculptural feature of this plant — cutting them weakens the plant and destroys its unique bonsai aesthetic.
- Rotate the pot regularly: turning it a quarter turn every two weeks ensures even foliage growth on all sides — without this, foliage grows toward the light on one side only and the silhouette becomes unbalanced.

How are my plants prepared before shipping?
All our plants are selected from our European partner nurseries. Before shipping, they are watered, cleaned, and protected with breathable, secure packaging. Each package is designed to ensure your plant arrives in perfect health, without any transport-related stress.
Will the plant look exactly like the photo?
The photos accurately represent the variety and the stated size. Since each plant is unique, slight differences in shape, foliage, or color may occur — and that’s part of their charm.
What are the delivery times and conditions?
Shipping is done within 48 business hours, with tracked delivery within 2 to 5 business days. Delivery costs €5.60 — free for orders over €50. You will receive a tracking link as soon as the package is shipped.
What to do upon receiving my plant?
Open your package as soon as you receive it and carefully remove the plant from its packaging. Let it acclimate for 24 hours in its new environment before watering. If it has been slightly stressed during transport, it will recover its shape after one or two days in the light.
What to do if my plant arrives damaged?
Contact us within 48 hours with a photo of the issue. Our team will assess the situation and offer you the best solution: replacement, partial refund, or recovery advice.
Can I return a plant?
Since plants are living beings, standard returns are not possible. However, we guarantee good health upon delivery: if the plant arrives damaged, it will be replaced free of charge. For any other cases (order error, decorative pot, accessory), returns are possible within 14 days.
