Calathea ornata – Ø14 cm – 50 cm
🌿 Tropical • 🌸 Pink striped leaves • 💧 Humidity lover • 🌗 Leaves that move at night • 🏙️ Ideal for urban interiors
The Calathea ornata, also called a living plant, is a fascinating tropical species native to the humid forests of South America. Its large oval leaves close at night and reopen in the morning, following the rhythm of day and night — a true plant ballet.
Its dark green foliage streaked with delicate pink lines makes it a natural work of art. Elegant, soothing, and air-purifying, it instantly transforms your interior into a modern tropical oasis.
Exposure & placement
- Exposure: filtered or partial shade, never direct sun.
- Ideal in a living room, bedroom, or bright office without direct sunlight.
- Perfectly suited for rest rooms or reading corners.
- Tolerates soft artificial light well, perfect for urban interiors.
Verdeia tip: place your Calathea ornata near a light wall or mirror to highlight its pink stripes.
Watering & maintenance
- Watering: keep the substrate slightly moist without excess stagnant water.
- Frequent watering in summer, more spaced out in winter.
- Preferably use soft water (rain or low in lime).
- Humidity: regularly mist the foliage to recreate the tropical atmosphere.
- Fertilize once a month from March to September with a fertilizer for green plants.
Dry or brown edges often indicate air that is too dry — regular misting solves the problem.
Growing tips
- Place it near a humidifier or in a bright bathroom.
- Repot every 2 years to promote growth and vitality.
- Remove damaged leaves to encourage new growth.
- Combine with other Calathea to create a harmonious indoor mini-jungle.
Decor ideas & plant combinations
- Pair with Maranta or Ctenanthe for a cohesive tropical set.
- Combine with Philodendron or Monstera for a graphic jungle effect.
- Add ferns to enrich humidity and visual texture.
- Its pink veins stand out beautifully in a matte black or pastel pot.
On a shelf, console, or desk, it catches the eye and brings calm and freshness.
Verdeia Tips
- Avoid any direct sunlight exposure: its foliage is sensitive to burns.
- Maintain high ambient humidity to preserve the brightness of its leaves.
- Rotate the pot regularly for balanced growth.
- Clean the leaves with a damp cloth to maintain their shine.
Calathea ornata embodies tropical elegance: an artistic and lively touch for modern interiors.
