Monstera deliciosa — Hole plant / False philodendron
A true star of urban interiors, the Monstera deliciosa — also called hole plant — captivates with its spectacular, deep green and finely cut foliage. Native to the tropical forests of Central America, it embodies vitality, lushness, and the urban jungle spirit par excellence.
Easy to care for and very long-lived, this tropical plant adapts perfectly to bright interiors and quickly becomes the centerpiece of your decor.
Exposure & location
The Monstera deliciosa prefers bright indirect or filtered light. It tolerates partial shade, but its leaves develop more cuts with more light.
- Ideal: living room, office, or bedroom well lit without direct sun.
- Avoid: scorching sun, which yellows the leaves.
- Perfect location: near a sheer curtain window or a few meters from a bay window.
Verdeia tip: make it climb on a moss stake or let it spread for a natural jungle effect.
Watering & care
- Watering: moderate — water when the soil surface is dry.
- Frequency: about once a week in spring-summer, less often in winter.
- Humidity: appreciates light misting on the foliage, especially in summer.
- Care: clean large leaves with a damp cloth to revive their shine.
- Level: easy — perfect for plant lovers with a bold tropical style.
If the leaves are not yet cut, don’t worry: it will come with light and maturity.
Decor ideas & plant combinations
The Monstera is a timeless plant icon, perfect for contemporary, bohemian, or tropical interiors. Its large leaves add volume and an instant touch of exoticism.
- Visual look: graphic and generous foliage, perfect to dress a bright corner.
- To pair with: Pothos, Philodendron, or Calathea for a dense urban jungle effect.
- Ideal pot: light ceramic pot or planter cover in natural fiber to contrast with its deep green.
- Where to place it: on the floor, on a low piece of furniture, or in a large pot next to a sofa.
Monstera loves to climb: install a moss stake to see it unfold its large perforated leaves.
Verdeia tips
- Repotting: every 2 years in spring, into a larger pot.
- Substrate: rich, light, and well-draining soil.
- Support: install a coconut fiber stake to support its vertical growth.
- Yellow leaves: often a sign of overwatering or lack of light.
As it ages, the Monstera produces aerial roots: let them breathe or guide them to the soil.
