Hydrangea arborescens ‘Pink Annabelle’ — Bright pink & compact ball hydrangea
🌸 Bright pink flowering • 🌿 Compact habit • 🏙️ Ideal for terraces & balconies • ☀️ Partial shade / Light shade • ❄️ Hardy to −25 °C
Hydrangea arborescens ‘Pink Annabelle’, or pink ball hydrangea, charms with its large spherical inflorescences of bright vivid pink. Its generous flowering brightens balconies, terraces, and small gardens with its romantic and delicate charm throughout the summer.
Compact, hardy, and easy to maintain, it adapts well to both pot culture and open ground. It is an ideal plant to create a flowery, soothing, and elegant atmosphere in any urban space.
Exposure & location
- Exposure: partial shade to light shade (avoid full scorching sun).
- Soil: rich, fresh, well-drained, slightly acidic.
- Culture: perfect in a pot on balcony or terrace, or in a bed in a small garden.
- Location: ideal in shaded and cool corners of urban spaces.
A bright location without direct sun ensures longer-lasting flowering and more intense flowers.
Watering & maintenance
- Watering: abundant and regular, especially during hot periods — soil should remain moist without waterlogging.
- Fertilizer: for flowering plants, in spring and summer, to prolong flowering.
- Pruning: annual at the end of winter, to renew flowering stems.
- Hardiness: excellent, tolerates down to −25 °C without protection.
In a pot, place a water saucer under the pot to maintain humidity without soaking the roots.
Decor ideas & plant combinations
- Shaded ambiance: superb with hostas and ferns for a refined look.
- Graphic contrast: with a Japanese maple (Acer palmatum) for a zen and colorful effect.
- Floral matches: harmonious with white hydrangeas for a soft and bright scene.
- In pots: surrounded by trailing plants (ivy, dichondra, bacopa) for a cascading effect.
Hydrangea arborescens are perfect for creating a “flowering scene” on balconies, terraces, or shaded patios.
Verdeia tips
- Water generously during heat waves: a happy hydrangea always has cool feet.
- Add some compost or potting soil each spring to support flowering.
- In pots, prefer a large container to allow roots to develop freely.
- Avoid too windy exposures that could break flowering stems.
Hydrangea ‘Pink Annabelle’ embodies urban romantic charm: floriferous, structured, and easy to live with.
