Monstera deliciosa variegata — Variegated hole plant
A true tropical icon, the Monstera deliciosa variegata captivates with its spectacular foliage, alternating deep green and creamy white. Each leaf is a natural work of art, unique in its marbling and cuts.
Native to the tropical forests of Central and South America, this climbing plant grows by clinging to trunks and branches to capture the filtered light of the canopy. Indoors, it brings a touch of modern exoticism and urban freshness.
Exposure & location
The Monstera variegata thrives in soft, indirect light. Too much direct sun could burn its more fragile white areas, while a lack of light would dull its variegation.
- Exposure: partial shade to bright indirect light.
- Ideal: near a large sheer-curtained window or in a well-lit room.
- Temperature: between 18 and 27 °C, without cold drafts.
- Humidity: it appreciates a slightly humid atmosphere (misting possible).
Verdeia tip: make it climb a moss stake to encourage vertical growth and the development of large perforated leaves.
Watering & care
- Watering: moderate; let the top layer of soil dry out between waterings.
- Drainage: use a well-aerated mix (potting soil + perlite + coconut fiber).
- Fertilizer: every 2 to 3 weeks in spring and summer, with a balanced fertilizer.
- Care: clean the leaves with a damp cloth to preserve their shine.
In winter, reduce watering and maintain good lighting to preserve the beauty of the variegated foliage.
Decor ideas & plant combinations
With its tropical presence and variegated foliage, the Monstera variegata becomes the centerpiece of any interior. It pairs perfectly with solid green plants or fine foliage for a texture contrast.
- To pair with: Ficus lyrata, Zamioculcas, or Asplenium for a dense and harmonious decor.
- Ideal pot: white, beige, or terracotta ceramic to enhance the contrast of the foliage.
- Atmosphere: perfect for a bright living room, a green office, or a plant-filled entrance.
Placed alone in a large pot, it attracts all eyes and becomes a true living sculpture.
Verdeia tips
- Rotate the plant regularly to promote balanced growth.
- Avoid overwatering, the main cause of leaf yellowing.
- Lightly mist its foliage to compensate for the dry air of heated interiors.
Each leaf of Monstera variegata is unique: its variegations change with the light and time, offering a living and evolving beauty.
