Verdeia tips
  • Upon receipt, take the plant out of its box and allow it 24 to 48 hours to acclimate in a bright place without direct sunlight.
  • Check the soil moisture before watering; add a little water only if the surface is dry.
  • Avoid heat sources and drafts, and keep a slightly humid atmosphere to preserve the beauty of the foliage.
  • Wait 2 to 3 weeks before any repotting, allowing the plant time to stabilize.
  • Gently wipe the leaves to remove dust and observe them: slight stress during the first few days is completely normal.

Polyscias Fabian — structured & elegant Indoor Aralia

    🪴 Decorative mini-tree • 🌤️ Partial shade • 💧 Moderate care • 💨 Air-purifying • 🎨 Purplish foliage

The Polyscias Fabian, also called Indoor Aralia, is a tropical plant with a naturally architectural habit. Its thin, branched trunk carries dense foliage of a dark green with purplish reflections, almost violet on the underside. The result: a true plant presence, both elegant and calm, reminiscent of miniature tropical trees.

Native to the Pacific islands, it is an ideal plant for urban living: it is content with soft light, tolerates partial shade, and requires little watering. Its controlled silhouette allows it to visually structure a space without cluttering it. Perfect to add depth to a modern living room, a sleek office, or a calming reading corner.

    Exposure & location

The Polyscias Fabian likes soft light, never direct. It thrives in filtered bright spaces but can also live in a more temperate, slightly shaded room. It does not need strong sun to keep its foliage dense and deep.

    • Light : indirect light or partial shade. Direct sun can burn the leaves.
    • Ideal location : quiet living room, office, entrance, relaxation room — a few steps from a window rather than right against the glass.
    • Stability : it hates cold drafts. Avoid highly ventilated passage areas.
    • Temperature : 18 to 25 °C. Temperatures below 15 °C can weaken it.

Its vertical and branched habit makes it an excellent “visual anchor” plant: it dresses an empty corner, structures a reading nook, or brings a natural touch to a workspace without taking up too much width.

    Watering & maintenance

The Polyscias Fabian prefers a regular but light rhythm: water moderately, then let it breathe. Its root system does not like excess stagnant water. Better to forget it one day than to overwater.

    • Watering : water about every 10 to 12 days, when the soil surface is dry. Do not soak the entire root ball.
    • Drainage : always empties excess water from the saucer to prevent root rot.
    • Humidity: a standard indoor atmosphere suits it. Light misting in very dry air during winter can help young leaves.
    • Foliage care: dust the leaves with a soft, slightly damp cloth. Clean foliage = better breathing = more regular growth.
    • Fertilizer: add a mild fertilizer for green plants every 4 weeks in spring and summer to support branching.
    • Repotting: every 2 to 3 years, in spring, in rich but draining soil. Choose a planter cover with a pierced bottom.

Signs to watch for: yellowing leaves = often too frequent watering; leaves becoming soft and drooping = lack of water or air too cold. Adjust gently, without excess.

    Decor ideas & plant pairings

This plant functions as a vegetal architectural element. Visually, it brings depth, volume, and calm. Its dark foliage creates an elegant contrast in bright rooms and adds character to light, woody, or mineral interiors.

    • Zen atmosphere: place it in a textured stoneware, matte ceramic, or light concrete planter cover to highlight its purplish-reflecting leaves. Perfect in a minimalist living room or a calm bedroom.
    • Discreet focal point: placed near an armchair or bookshelf, it becomes a natural presence that softens the straight lines of the furniture.
    • Reading / introspective corner: its compact shrub form evokes a small indoor tree, almost a tropical bonsai. It invites slowness and visual calm.
    • At the office: it brings controlled verticality without invading the workspace. Ideal to add a lively touch without visual overload.

    Recommended pairings:

    • Ficus lyrata — for a tall tropical atmosphere, broader in leaves.
    • Zamioculcas zamiifolia — for a very urban graphic duo, easy to maintain.
    • Philodendron Imperial Red — to echo the dark and purplish tones.

    Verdeia Tips

    • Turn it regularly: rotate the planter cover a quarter turn every two weeks to maintain a balanced shape and prevent it from leaning toward the light.
    • Protect it from the cold: the Polyscias Fabian hates cold drafts from windows in winter or front doors. Keep it in a stable, temperate area.
    • Water sparingly: it is often excess water — not lack — that causes problems. Always wait for the top layer of soil to dry before watering again.
    • Favor softness: no direct burning sun, no icy watering, no sudden change of location. This plant likes consistency.
    • Cleans to shine: a simple soft cloth reveals the dark green / purple shades of the foliage and helps the plant better capture light.
    • Keeps a stable pot: its vertical habit can become slightly tall. A somewhat heavy planter cover (concrete, thick ceramic) gives it good visual and physical stability.
