Verdeia tips
  • Upon receipt, take the plant out of its box and allow it 24 to 48 hours to acclimate in a bright place without direct sunlight.
  • Check the soil moisture before watering; add a little water only if the surface is dry.
  • Avoid heat sources and drafts, and keep a slightly humid atmosphere to preserve the beauty of the foliage.
  • Wait 2 to 3 weeks before any repotting, allowing the plant time to stabilize.
  • Gently wipe the leaves to remove dust and observe them: slight stress during the first few days is completely normal.

Outdoor plant Fruit-bearing & edible Rustic Early variety Certified organic

The Ribes rubrum ‘Jonkheer van Tets’ is an organic red currant bush known for its earliness and the quality of its fruits. Its long clusters of shiny red currants appear from early summer and offer a perfect balance between sweetness and acidity.

Robust, decorative, and easy to grow, it thrives both in pots and in open ground — an ideal urban fruit plant for balconies, terraces, or small gardens.

    Exposure & location

The currant bush ‘Jonkheer van Tets’ prefers a bright location without scorching sun. It tolerates cold and thrives in rich, fresh, and well-drained soils.

    • Exposure: mild sun or partial shade.
    • Cultivation: in a 20–30 cm pot or in open ground.
    • Soil: fertile, fresh, and slightly acidic.
    • Particularity: self-fertile, but more productive in the presence of other currant bushes.

In a pot, ensure good drainage and keep the substrate moist during flowering and fruiting.

    Watering & maintenance

    • Watering: regular during flowering and fruit formation.
    • Fertilizer: compost or organic fertilizer in spring to stimulate fruiting.
    • Pruning: after harvest, cut the branches that have fruited to renew the branches.
    • Flowering: April to May, followed by a generous harvest in June-July.

Consistent but moderate watering ensures bigger and tastier fruits.

    Decor ideas & plant pairings

The red currant ‘Jonkheer van Tets’ adds a colorful and tasty touch to terraces and urban gardens. Its translucent fruit clusters are as decorative as they are delicious.

    • To pair with: raspberry, blueberry, or blackcurrant for a varied red fruit collection.
    • Ideal setting: fruity balcony or natural city garden.
    • Recommended pot: deep terracotta pot or recycled fiber container.

The contrast between its bright green foliage and red clusters instantly brightens the space.

    Verdeia Tips

    • Water regularly without soaking the soil.
