Ficus benjamina ‘Kinky’ — Ø12 cm — H28 cm
🌿 Cream variegated foliage • ☀️ Indirect light • 💧 Moderate watering • 🪴 Easy care
The Ficus benjamina ‘Kinky’, a compact form of the weeping fig, is distinguished by its glossy light green foliage finely edged with cream and its elegant branching. Perfect for shelves, consoles, and bright desks, it instantly adds a touch of urban elegance.
Adaptable and undemanding, it acclimates well to apartment life: soft light, measured watering, and a stable environment are enough to keep it beautiful all year round.
Exposure & placement
The Ficus ‘Kinky’ prefers bright light without direct sun. It tolerates partial shade but will be denser near a window with filtered light. Avoid drafts and sudden temperature changes.
- Exposure: indirect to partial shade light.
- Ideal: desk corner, console near a window, bright shelf.
- Temperature: 18–25 °C, stable atmosphere.
- Substrate: light and draining potting soil (perlite/coconut fiber) in a pot with drainage holes.
Verdeia tip: a sheer curtain in front of an east or north-facing window protects its variegated foliage from direct rays.
Watering & care
- Watering: moderate: let 1–2 cm dry on the surface before watering. Reduce in winter.
- Drainage: essential: empty the saucer 10 minutes after watering.
- Humidity: occasional light misting for clean and shiny foliage.
- Fertilizer: every 2 months in spring-summer, lightly dosed.
- Pruning: pinch young stems to keep a compact shape and stimulate branching.
After moving, a small leaf drop may occur: let it stabilize without changing location.
Decor ideas & plant pairings
Its slender habit and cream edging match natural materials and soft tones.
- To pair with: Pilea peperomioides, Calathea, Maranta to play with texture contrasts.
- Ideal pot: matte sand ceramic, beige stoneware, or terracotta to highlight the variegation.
- Ambiance: perfect in an urban jungle composition on a console or shelf.
Turn the pot a quarter turn at each watering for even growth and regular foliage.
Verdeia tips
- Give it soft and consistent light: direct sun can mark the leaves.
- Maintain a stable watering rhythm: better a slight lack than excess water.
- Wipe leaves with a damp cloth to remove dust and promote photosynthesis.
- Avoid moving it often: the ficus likes stability.
- Repot every 1–2 years in a more aerated mix if roots fill the pot.
