Euphorbia acrurensis – Cowboy Cactus / African Euphorbia
🌵 Sculptural succulent • 💧 Minimal care • 🏙️ Chic desert • 🌬️ Air purifying • ✨ Modern design
Euphorbia acrurensis, also called Cowboy Cactus or African Euphorbia, is a majestic succulent native to the arid regions of southern Africa. Its slender and architectural silhouette embodies the perfect balance between raw nature and contemporary design.
With its deeply ribbed stems of a slightly marbled deep green, it captures light and brings a touch of chic desert to any urban interior. Resistant, graphic, and powerful, it is the ideal plant for those who want style without constraints.
Exposure & placement
- Prefers bright to sunny light.
- Ideal near a south- or west-facing window.
- Tolerates heat and dry rooms.
- Avoid direct scorching sun during the hottest hours.
- Ideal temperature: 18–28 °C.
Verdeia Tip: rotate your plant every 10 days for harmonious growth and to prevent it from leaning toward the light.
Watering & care
- Minimal watering: every 2 to 3 weeks in summer, less often in winter.
- Let the substrate dry completely between waterings.
- Use a well-draining special cactus soil.
- Never leave standing water in the saucer.
- Clean the stems with a soft, dry cloth to preserve their shine.
An almost indestructible plant: ideal for busy city dwellers or beginners who often forget to water.
Verdeia Advice
- Winter: greatly reduce watering, the plant enters dormancy.
- Substrate: favor a draining mix with gravel or perlite to avoid moisture.
- Repotting: every 2 to 3 years, in spring, into a slightly larger pot.
- Shape maintenance: gently clean dust from the ribs to keep its marbled green shine.
- Safety: wear gloves when pruning or repotting, as its sap (white latex) is slightly irritating.
Decor ideas & combinations
- In a planter cover of concrete, black metal, or raw ceramic for a chic industrial effect.
- Pair it with a Crassula ovata or an Aloe vera for a harmonious desert corner.
- In contrast with a Ficus lyrata or an Areca to play with volumes and textures.
- Perfect to dress a bright living room, an office, or a modern veranda.
