Verdeia tips
  • Upon receipt, take the plant out of its box and allow it 24 to 48 hours to acclimate in a bright place without direct sunlight.
  • Check the soil moisture before watering; add a little water only if the surface is dry.
  • Avoid heat sources and drafts, and keep a slightly humid atmosphere to preserve the beauty of the foliage.
  • Wait 2 to 3 weeks before any repotting, allowing the plant time to stabilize.
  • Gently wipe the leaves to remove dust and observe them: slight stress during the first few days is completely normal.

Sarracenia ‘Scarlet Belle’ — Scarlet & decorative carnivorous plant

🌞 Bright light / partial shade • 💧 Rainwater only • 🪴 Bright interior / sheltered balcony • ✨ Easy to care for

The Sarracenia ‘Scarlet Belle’ is an exceptional carnivorous plant, native to the marshes of North America, fascinating as much for its elegance as for its natural ingenuity. Its upright urns, veined with ivory white and scarlet red, unfold like strange and refined flowers, capturing light and insects with equal grace.

Compact, symmetrical, and highly ornamental, this hybrid variety embodies a perfect balance between botanical beauty and natural curiosity. Suited to urban life, it can be grown both in bright interiors and sheltered outdoor areas, bringing a lively and poetic touch of wild nature to any space.

    Exposure & location

The Sarracenia ‘Scarlet Belle’ enjoys bright and slightly sunny environments. The more abundant the light, the more its urns display intense shades ranging from creamy white to deep crimson red. It thrives both in bright indoor settings and sheltered outdoor spots during the warm season.

    • Light: bright to partial shade, gentle sun appreciated in the morning or late afternoon.
    • Ideal locations: east- or west-facing windowsill, veranda, bright balcony, or partially shaded terrace.
    • Outdoors: from April to October, place it in a well-ventilated and humid spot, sheltered from the wind.
    • In winter: prefer a cool and bright room (5–10 °C) for its natural rest.

Verdeia Tip: the stronger the light, the more intense the red coloration becomes and the urns grow robust. Just avoid harsh direct sunlight behind a window.

    Watering & humidity

Like all bog plants, the Sarracenia ‘Scarlet Belle’ likes a constantly moist but never waterlogged substrate. It tolerates neither lime nor fertilizer — its root system is designed for poor, acidic soils.

    • Water: only rainwater, distilled or demineralized (never tap water).
    • Watering: always keep 1 to 2 cm of water in the saucer during the growing season.
    • Winter: keep the substrate simply moist, without excess stagnant water.
    • Substrate: mix of blonde peat and perlite, without added nutrients or fertilizer.
    • Misting: unnecessary — substrate humidity is sufficient.

Verdeia advice: avoid watering from above — let the plant hydrate by capillarity from the saucer. And never add fertilizer: its urns alone provide its natural nutrition.

    Decor ideas & plant pairings

With its compact form and contrasting hues, the Sarracenia ‘Scarlet Belle’ is a true living sculpture. It draws the eye in any interior while remaining elegant and refined. Its red and white shades create a striking effect, ideal for enhancing contemporary spaces.

    • Perfect in an open terrarium or on a bright windowsill.
    • On a designer desk or a minimalist console, it becomes a decorative object in its own right.
    • Paired with a Drosera capensis or a Nepenthes, it composes a fascinating carnivorous scene.
    • Ideal for creating an urban botanical corner or an unusual plant collection.

Verdeia decor tip: highlight it in a clear or transparent planter cover to enhance the light filtering through its veined urns.

    Verdeia Tips

    • Remove dry urns: cut them at the base to encourage new healthy shoots.
    • Give it a calm winter: let it rest in a cool, bright room with reduced watering.
    • Repotting: every 2 years in spring, in a fresh, acidic, and light substrate (peat + perlite).
    • Avoid: misting, fertilizers, and excessive handling of the urns.
    • Observation: its colors change according to the light — watch its scarlet red hues intensify in summer.

True to the spirit of Verdeia, the Sarracenia ‘Scarlet Belle’ is a plant that is both self-sufficient, poetic, and ecological: it naturally feeds itself while adding a touch of elegance and mystery to your urban jungle.
