🌿 Air-purifying • ☀️ Sun / Partial shade • 💧 Low watering • 🪴 Easy care
The Sansevieria ‘Whitney’, also called mother-in-law's tongue, is an iconic houseplant known for its robustness and graphic look. Its upright, dark green leaves edged with silver tones bring a modern and clean touch to any space.
Native to the tropical regions of West Africa, this plant effortlessly adapts to urban environments and light variations. Low-maintenance, it purifies the air and adds a contemporary touch of greenery to your interior.
Exposure & location
The Sansevieria Whitney adapts to almost all lighting conditions, from direct sun to partial shade. It is ideal for spaces where natural light is moderate or indirect.
- Exposure: sun to partial shade, also tolerates low light.
- Ideal: office, living room, or dimly lit entryway.
- Temperature: between 16 °C and 28 °C.
- Substrate: well-draining, cactus and succulent potting mix.
Verdeia tip: avoid placing it in a too humid corner — it prefers dry and bright environments.
Watering & care
- Watering: low; water every 2 to 3 weeks and let the substrate dry completely between waterings.
- Drainage: essential to avoid water stagnation and the risk of root rot.
- Fertilizer: once a month in spring and summer, with a mild fertilizer for green plants.
- Care: simply clean the leaves with a damp cloth.
- Winter rest: greatly reduce watering in autumn and winter.
This plant prefers lack of water over excess: missing a watering is better than too much!
Decor ideas & plant combinations
With its vertical habit and contrasting shade, the Sansevieria Whitney embodies minimalist elegance. It fits well in a design interior as well as in a bohemian or industrial space.
- To pair with: Zamioculcas, Pilea peperomioides, or Aloe vera for a graphic ensemble.
- Ideal pot: terracotta, matte ceramic, or light concrete.
- Atmosphere: perfect for an office, windowsill, or urban reading nook.
Its structured foliage creates a strong contrast with plants that have a softer or trailing habit.

- Water sparingly: overwatering is the only real danger for Sansevieria.
- Place it in a bright spot, but it also tolerates darker corners.
- Clean the foliage once a month to keep its shine.
