Vitis vinifera ‘Johanniter’ — Resistant and decorative organic white grapevine
The Vitis vinifera ‘Johanniter’ is a vigorous and productive organic white grapevine, resulting from a cross between Riesling and resistant varieties. It produces beautiful clusters of greenish-white grapes, sweet and slightly muscat-flavored, perfect to enjoy fresh or processed into juice, jams, or homemade wine.
Easy to grow and disease-resistant, it adapts perfectly to city life: on a balcony, terrace, or along a sunny wall, it combines decorative charm and delicious pleasure.
Exposure & location
The ‘Johanniter’ vine loves full sun and warm, bright conditions. It can be grown in a deep pot on a terrace or planted in the ground at the base of a wall or pergola.
- Exposure: full sun essential for good fruiting.
- Location: balcony, terrace, sunny wall, or pergola.
- Culture: in a deep pot with a solid support or planted in well-draining soil.
Verdeia tip: combine several grapevine varieties for a mini urban vineyard that is both decorative and gourmet.
Watering & maintenance
- Watering: regular in summer, especially in pots. Space out more during the rest of the year.
- Pruning: annual in winter to stimulate fruiting and control growth.
- Fertilizer: potassium supply in spring to promote cluster production.
- Maintenance: easy — resistant to diseases, ideal for organic cultivation without treatment.
A well-pruned grapevine each winter guarantees a generous harvest and a harmonious shape.
Decor ideas & plant pairings
The Johanniter grapevine adds an authentic and rustic touch to urban terraces. Its cut leaves and golden clusters create an elegant contrast with other green or flowering plants.
- To pair with: lavenders, rosemaries, dwarf fig trees, or terrace olive trees.
- Ideal ambiance: sunny terrace, Mediterranean garden, or urban gourmet corner.
- Recommended support: trellis, taut wires, or small pergola to guide the shoots.
Grapevine leaves create a soft and natural shade — a true cool spot in summer.
Verdeia Tips
- Place it facing south or west for optimal sunlight.
- Water regularly without soaking the soil, especially during fruiting periods.
- Prune it every winter to renew productive wood and maintain a balanced shape.
A perfect grapevine to combine aesthetics, productivity, and ecological cultivation in urban environments.
