Alocasia ‘Regal Shield’
🌿 Deep green foliage & purple underside • ☀️ Indirect light / Partial shade • 💧 Moderate watering • 🪴 Moderate care
The Alocasia ‘Regal Shield’ captivates with its large heart-shaped leaves, a slightly satin deep green, crossed by pronounced veins highlighted by a purple underside. Graphic and majestic, it brings an elegant tropical presence to urban interiors.
Ideal for structuring a living area, an entrance, or an office, it prefers soft light, regular but measured watering, and a slightly humid atmosphere.
Exposure & location
The Alocasia ‘Regal Shield’ thrives in indirect light and tolerates partial shade. Avoid direct sunlight which can mark the foliage. An east or northeast window is perfect; in summer, it can stay outside on a shaded balcony, sheltered from wind and temperatures below 15 °C.
- Exposure: filtered natural light, without direct rays.
- Ideal: near a sheer window, away from radiators or air conditioning.
- Temperature: 18–26 °C, stable and without cold drafts.
- Substrate: draining mix (green plant soil + perlite/coconut fiber).
Verdeia tip: turn the pot a quarter turn each week to promote harmonious growth of the large leaves.
Watering & care
- Watering: moderate: keep the substrate slightly moist, let the surface dry between waterings.
- Drainage: essential to avoid excess water and softening of the stems.
- Humidity: appreciates a slightly humid atmosphere (fine misting or tray of wet clay balls).
- Care: clean the leaves with a soft damp cloth to preserve their shine and photosynthesis.
- Repotting: every 1–2 years, in spring, into a slightly larger pot.
In winter, reduce watering and keep the plant in a bright, temperate room to support its slower rhythm.
Decor ideas & plant pairings
With its sculptural form, the Alocasia ‘Regal Shield’ becomes the centerpiece of a contemporary plant corner. Its deep shades blend with natural materials and mineral tones.
- To pair with: Philodendron, Calathea or Maranta for a textured tropical composition.
- Ideal pot: matte textured ceramic, beige stoneware or dark terracotta to highlight the foliage contrast.
- Ambiance: perfect to structure an elegant and graphic urban mini-jungle.
Place it slightly set back from a bay window, near an armchair or console, to showcase its large leaves.
Verdeia tips
- Avoid direct sunlight: it can burn the leaves and leave light marks.
- Water according to the plant’s rhythm: the surface must dry between waterings, never soggy substrate.
- Provide gentle ambient humidity: fine misting, humidifier or tray of clay balls.
- Monitor temperature variations: no drafts, no direct AC airflow.
- Add a light fertilizer in spring-summer to support new leaf growth.
