Verdeia tips
  • Upon receipt, take the plant out of its box and allow it 24 to 48 hours to acclimate in a bright place without direct sunlight.
  • Check the soil moisture before watering; add a little water only if the surface is dry.
  • Avoid heat sources and drafts, and keep a slightly humid atmosphere to preserve the beauty of the foliage.
  • Wait 2 to 3 weeks before any repotting, allowing the plant time to stabilize.
  • Gently wipe the leaves to remove dust and observe them: slight stress during the first few days is completely normal.

Morus nigra ‘Mulle’ — Organic black mulberry

Organic fruit tree Small tree Hardy to -15°C Sun / Partial shade Sustainable cultivation

The Morus nigra ‘Mulle’, or black mulberry, is an exceptional small fruit tree that combines aesthetics, flavor, and sustainability. Perfect for balconies, terraces, and small urban gardens, it offers a generous harvest of sweet and fragrant mulberries while adding a natural and delicious touch to your outdoor space.

Grown in organic farming, this hardy fruit tree fully embodies the Verdeia philosophy: beauty, respect for nature, and sustainable cultivation 🌿.

    Exposure & placement

The black mulberry ‘Mulle’ easily adapts to urban environments. It thrives in the sun but tolerates partial shade, and grows well both in pots and in the ground.

    • Exposure: sun or partial shade (at least 4 hours of light per day).
    • Location: balcony, terrace, small garden, patio.
    • Culture: in a deep pot or well-drained open ground.
    • Support: not necessary — naturally rounded shape.

Verdeia tip: to encourage fruiting, place your mulberry in a warm and bright location.

    Flowering & fruiting

This small fruit tree charms as much with its heart-shaped foliage as with its tasty fruits. Its discreet spring flowering gives way to a generous production of juicy and sweet blackberries.

    • Flowering: May — small discreet white flowers.
    • Fruiting: summer to autumn.
    • Fruit color: first red, then shiny black at maturity.
    • Flavor: sweet, sugary, and very fragrant.
    • Use: to enjoy fresh, dried, or in homemade jams, syrups, and juices.

Ripe fruits are hand-picked when they easily fall between the fingers.

    Watering & maintenance

    • Watering: regular in summer, spaced out in winter.
    • Soil: rich, light, and well-drained.
    • Pruning: light at the end of winter to maintain a balanced shape.
    • Hardiness: excellent, down to –15 °C.
    • Culture: ideal for balconies and terraces in recyclable pots ♻️.

Organic mulching at the base helps retain moisture and naturally nourish the soil.

    Decor ideas & plant pairings

The black mulberry ‘Mulle’ adds a bucolic and gourmet touch to any urban space. Its elegant silhouette fits perfectly into a fruit or Mediterranean composition.

    • To pair with: strawberry plants, raspberry bushes, lavenders, or dwarf olive trees.
    • Ideal ambiance: gourmet terrace, edible balcony, Mediterranean mini-garden.
    • Ideal pot: wooden box or natural terracotta pot.

Combine it with other organic fruit trees for a productive and ecological urban garden.

    Verdeia Tips

    • Choose a warm and bright location.
    • Water regularly during hot periods, without excess.
    • Prune lightly at the end of each winter.
    • In a pot, add organic fertilizer in spring.

The Morus nigra ‘Mulle’ is a perfect fruit tree for city dwellers wishing to combine beauty, nature, and gustatory pleasure.
