Schlumbergera rose — Ø17 cm — H35 cm
🌸 Bright pink flowering • ☀️ Indirect light • 💧 Regular watering • 🪴 Easy care
The Schlumbergera, often called Christmas Cactus or Easter Cactus, is a tropical succulent plant native to Brazil. It charms with its flat, segmented stems forming pretty green chains, and especially with its spectacular, bright, and delicate flowering. In winter, its tubular flowers of a vivid pink brighten the home and bring a joyful touch to any urban interior.
Easy to care for, this plant loves soft light and requires little maintenance. Perfect for bright apartments, it can be placed on a windowsill or hung in a decorative pot.
Exposure & location
The Schlumbergera appreciates bright light without direct sun. Too much sun could burn its fleshy stems and dull its flowers. Place it in a bright room, sheltered from direct rays, in a temperate and stable environment.
- Exposure: indirect light or bright partial shade.
- Ideal: east or north-facing windowsill, bright living room, temperate office.
- Temperature: between 18 and 24 °C, without drafts.
- Substrate: light and draining soil, cactus or flowering plant type.
Verdeia tip: to stimulate flowering, give it a few cooler nights in autumn (15–17 °C) before the buds appear.
Watering & care
- Watering: regular during flowering, keeping the substrate slightly moist.
- Drainage: essential to avoid excess water in the roots.
- Rest: after flowering, reduce watering for 3 to 4 weeks.
- Fertilizer: every 15 days from May to September with a flowering plant fertilizer.
- Pruning: lightly pinch the stems after flowering to encourage new shoots.
Avoid moving the plant when it has buds: it might lose them before they open.
Decor ideas & plant combinations
With its trailing habit and bright flowers, the Schlumbergera pairs wonderfully with natural materials and soft tones. It brings a floral and colorful note to a sober or bohemian interior.
- To combine with: Peperomia, Pilea peperomioides or Sansevieria to create a lively and contrasting composition.
- Ideal pot: matte white ceramic, beige stoneware or terracotta to highlight its flowering.
- Ambiance: perfect on a console, a windowsill or hanging near a bay window.
Let its stems naturally trail from a shelf for a soft and airy effect.
Verdeia tips
- Avoid direct sun, especially in summer, to preserve foliage and flower buds.
- Lightly mist the air around during dry periods to mimic its tropical climate.
- Turn the pot regularly for balanced growth.
- Clean the segments with a soft cloth to keep shiny foliage.
- Give it a short rest period after flowering to encourage a new wave of flowers.
