Verdeia tips
  • Upon receipt, take the plant out of its box and allow it 24 to 48 hours to acclimate in a bright place without direct sunlight.
  • Check the soil moisture before watering; add a little water only if the surface is dry.
  • Avoid heat sources and drafts, and keep a slightly humid atmosphere to preserve the beauty of the foliage.
  • Wait 2 to 3 weeks before any repotting, allowing the plant time to stabilize.
  • Gently wipe the leaves to remove dust and observe them: slight stress during the first few days is completely normal.

Philodendron Imperial Red — Imperial red & tropical foliage

    🌿 Tropical • 🌤️ Partial shade • 💧 Easy care • 💨 Air-purifying • 🎨 Colorful foliage

The Philodendron Imperial Red is a majestic tropical plant, famous for its deep red foliage and elegant silhouette. Its large shiny leaves, ranging from crimson red to dark green, create a spectacular and sophisticated contrast in modern interiors.

Originating from South America, this non-climbing variety of Philodendron is distinguished by its compact growth and robustness. Both graphic, air-purifying, and easy to care for, it perfectly embodies the urban jungle according to Verdeia: lush, elegant, and suited to city life.

    Exposure & location

The Philodendron Imperial Red thrives in soft light or partial shade. It tolerates low-light interiors well, but its red tones stand out more in a bright space without direct sun. It is equally happy in a bright living room, an office, or a temperate bedroom.

    • Light: indirect to filtered — avoid prolonged direct sunlight.
    • Ideal location: near a filtered window or in a bright corner.
    • Temperature: 18–28 °C, protected from sudden changes.
    • Humidity: mild to slightly humid atmosphere, without excess.

Compact and structured, this Philodendron is perfect for filling an empty space, softening a room corner, or adding a chic tropical note to a contemporary interior.

    Watering & maintenance

Easy to care for, the Philodendron Imperial Red requires regular but moderate watering. The soil should remain slightly moist without ever being soggy. Its thick foliage retains moisture well, allowing watering intervals to be extended in winter.

    • Watering: when the surface of the soil is dry to 2 cm.
    • Substrate: rich and well-draining (potting soil + perlite or coconut fiber).
    • Fertilizer: every 3–4 weeks in spring and summer.
    • Care: regularly wipe the leaves with a soft cloth to maintain their shine.
    • Repotting: about every 2 years, when the roots fill the pot.

Tip: avoid overwatering — excess moisture can cause the lower leaves to yellow. Always let the water drain well after watering.

    Decor ideas & plant pairings

The Philodendron Imperial Red is a spectacular ornamental plant that brings warmth and depth to an interior. Its colorful foliage creates an elegant and soothing tropical atmosphere.

    • In a light or golden pot to enhance its red and bronze reflections.
    • On a wooden floor or light furniture to play with material contrasts.
    • Paired with a Philodendron Imperial Green for a balanced tropical composition.
    • In a living room or modern office for a sophisticated natural touch.

Verdeia Tip: combine it with a Monstera deliciosa or a Calathea Orbifolia for a graphic and balanced plant composition — a marriage of luxurious textures and shades.

    Verdeia Tips

    • Clean the leaves: to remove dust and promote the plant's breathing.
    • Rotate the plant regularly: to encourage harmonious growth and prevent it from leaning toward the light.
    • Avoid drafts: the Philodendron prefers a stable and temperate environment.
    • Maintain gentle humidity: lightly mist its foliage during dry periods.
    • Prune old leaves: this stimulates the production of new shoots and keeps a dense shape.
    • Place it in a large pot: its root system develops quickly, offering more vigor and stability.
    • Pair it with other leafy plants: this creates an immersive tropical atmosphere while balancing humidity needs.

This Philodendron is perfect for city dwellers seeking a spectacular yet easy-to-maintain plant. It embodies refined and generous nature, a symbol of Verdeia's urban and tropical style.
