Yucca “Maya Tree” — Ø19 cm — H80 cm
☀️ Sun / Partial shade • 🌿 Graphic foliage • 💧 Light watering • 🏙️ Structuring indoor plant
The Yucca “Maya Tree”, or Yucca elephantipes, is an iconic indoor plant native to the dry regions of Mexico and Guatemala. Recognizable by its thick stem resembling a trunk and its long sword-shaped leaves, it brings an exotic and architectural charm to any urban space.
Easy to care for and resilient, it thrives in light while requiring little attention. Perfect for active city dwellers, it brings both structure, elegance, and tropical serenity to a modern interior.
Exposure & location
The Yucca elephantipes enjoys bright places, bathed in soft sun or partial shade. It fits well in a bright living room, an office, or an entrance filled with natural light.
- Exposure: sun to partial shade, bright indirect light ideal.
- Ideal: bright room, near a bay window or a glass roof.
- Temperature: 18–28 °C, avoid cold drafts.
- Substrate: well-drained, slightly sandy or based on green plant potting soil.
Verdeia tip: let the substrate dry almost completely between waterings to mimic its original arid environment.
Watering & care
- Watering: light; water every 8 to 10 days in summer, more spaced in winter.
- Drainage: essential; Yucca dislikes excess water.
- Fertilizer: in spring and summer, once every 6 to 8 weeks with a balanced fertilizer.
- Pruning: remove dry leaves at the base of the trunk to keep a clean silhouette.
- Repotting: every 2 to 3 years in a pot with good drainage.
The less you water it, the happier it is! Yucca prefers slight water shortage to excess moisture.
Decor ideas & plant combinations
With its sculptural look and graphic foliage, the Yucca “Maya Tree” adds depth and a strong presence in contemporary interiors. It matches well with both minimalist decor and bohemian or tropical styles.
- To combine with: Sansevieria, Dracaena, or Monstera for a structured and harmonious set.
- Ideal pot: terracotta or matte ceramic in sand, gray, or terracotta tones.
- Ambiance: perfect for a bright living room, an urban veranda, or a sunny relaxation corner.
Its rigid foliage and slender silhouette make it an excellent corner plant to add height to a room.
Verdeia tips
- Turn the pot every month so that light reaches all sides evenly.
- Avoid overwatering: an overwatered Yucca is often unrecoverable.
- Clean the leaves occasionally with a damp cloth to remove dust.
- In winter, keep it near a bright window and drastically reduce watering.
- This air-purifying plant improves air quality while bringing a natural exotic touch.
Each plant is unique: the shape, density, and shades of the foliage vary according to light and season.
