Native to the humid tropical forests of Southeast Asia, Asplenium nidus 'Crispy Wave' is an epiphytic fern that naturally grows on tree trunks in shaded understories. Its distinctive feature among Aspleniums: its wide fronds have pronounced waves and very crisped edges — a sculptural graphic effect that immediately sets it apart from classic bird's nest ferns with smooth fronds. One of the most original in our fern collection and our non-toxic indoor plants.
Which Asplenium variety to choose?
The Asplenium genus offers several shapes ranging from the smoothest to the most graphic fronds:
- Asplenium nidus 'Crispy Wave' (this plant) — wide wavy fronds with very crisped edges, sculptural graphic effect (H25 cm | Pot Ø12 cm). The boldest and most contemporary version.
- Asplenium nidus — wide smooth fronds, classic and clean look, shiny green. The most traditional and timeless version.
- Asplenium nidus 'Crissie' — slightly wavy fronds, between the classic Nidus and the Crispy Wave. The intermediate version.
- Asplenium antiquum — wider and thicker fronds, matte dark green, robust habit. The most resilient version.
- Asplenium Osaka — moderately wavy fronds, balanced appearance, shiny green. The version between classic and graphic.
- Asplenium Campio — dense and compact fronds, bushy habit (H50 cm | Pot Ø17 cm). The largest version.
Light & location
- Light: partial shade to shade — soft indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight at all costs as it burns the delicate fronds and irreversibly discolors them. It is one of the best plants for low-light rooms.
- Ideal: bright bathroom, kitchen, office, shelf, or low-light room.
- Temperature: 18 to 24 °C, without sudden changes or cold drafts.
- Substrate: light, airy, and rich in organic matter — fern or orchid potting mix.
Watering & care
- Watering: regular — keep the substrate slightly moist at all times without ever soaking it. Asplenium does not tolerate dry substrate — regularly check soil moisture with the finger method described in our guide on when to water your plants and water with room temperature water.
- Frequency: about twice a week in spring-summer, slightly reduced in winter.
- Drainage: essential — pot with drainage holes and well-draining substrate.
- Humidity: prefers 60–80% humidity — mist regularly or place on a tray of moist clay pebbles.
- Fertilizer: once a month in spring-summer, liquid fertilizer for green plants diluted to half strength.
Decor ideas & plant combinations
- Bathroom composition: pair it with a Maranta Fascinator with graphic leaves and a Calathea Orbifolia with silver stripes — three non-toxic plants sharing the same high humidity needs for a fully green bathroom.
- Group several ferns together: placing several Aspleniums close creates a humid microclimate beneficial to all — each plant transpires and increases ambient humidity around the others, reducing the need for misting.
- Ideal pot: a Gabriel white ceramic or a white relief decorative pot highlights the shiny green of the wavy fronds by sharp contrast.

- Place it in a bright bathroom: this is the ideal location — the room’s natural humidity replicates the conditions of its tropical epiphytic habitat and greatly reduces the need for manual misting.
- Never water in the rosette center: stagnant water in the fern’s center causes rot — always water around the base or directly into the substrate, not on the fronds.
- Remove yellowed fronds at the base as soon as they appear: this is normal — old fronds gradually yellow; cutting them cleanly at the base encourages new frond growth and keeps a dense, vigorous shape.

What to do upon receiving my plant?
Open your package as soon as you receive it and carefully remove the plant from its packaging. Let it acclimate for 24 hours in its new environment before watering. If it has been slightly stressed during transport, it will recover its shape after one or two days in the light.
What to do if my plant arrives damaged?
Contact us within 48 hours with a photo of the issue. Our team will assess the situation and offer you the best solution: replacement, partial refund, or recovery advice.
Can I return a plant?
Since plants are living beings, standard returns are not possible. However, we guarantee good health upon delivery: if the plant arrives damaged, it will be replaced free of charge. For any other cases (order error, decorative pot, accessory), returns are possible within 14 days.
