Frequently Asked Questions
Why are the tips of my Asplenium Campio's fronds turning brown? It’s almost always due to low ambient humidity — the dry air in heated apartments is the main cause. Increase misting frequency, place the pot on a saucer of moist clay pebbles, or move the plant to a more humid bathroom.
Is Asplenium Campio suitable for a low-light room? Yes — it tolerates low light better than most graphic ferns. A room with diffuse indirect light is perfect. However, total darkness without any natural light will eventually exhaust the plant in the long term.

🌿 Shiny green wavy fronds • 🎨 Compact and graphic rosette habit • ☀️ Partial shade • 💧 Regular watering • 🌬️ Air-purifying • 🐾 Non-toxic • 📏 H50 cm | Pot Ø17 cm
The Asplenium nidus 'Campio', also called Bird's Nest Fern, is an elegant and graphic indoor fern native to the humid tropical forests of Southeast Asia and Australia, where it naturally grows as an epiphyte in shaded understories. Its shiny green fronds with pronounced waves and crisped edges form a spectacular and sculptural rosette — the most graphic and expressive Asplenium variety in the catalog.
Air-purifying, non-toxic, easy to care for. Discover it in our indoor fern collection and in our bathroom plant selection.
Which Asplenium variety to choose?
The Asplenium genus offers several varieties with distinct frond textures, all sharing the same light and humidity needs:
- Asplenium nidus 'Campio' (this plant) — very wavy and spectacular fronds, compact habit H50 cm. The most graphic and expressive version.
- Asplenium 'Osaka' — slightly wavy fronds, balanced habit. The elegant middle ground between smooth and wavy.
- Asplenium 'Crispy Wave' — very crisped and dense fronds, compact bushy habit. The ultra-graphic miniature version.
- Asplenium antiquum — perfectly smooth and shiny fronds, several sizes. The classic refined version.
- Asplenium nidus 'Crissie' — wavy fronds with crisped edges, several sizes. The classic wavy version.
- Asplenium nidus — broad and smooth fronds, generous and imposing habit. The classic XXL version.
- Asplenium 'Parvati' — finely cut and lacerated fronds, unique lace effect. The most original version.
Why choose the Campio? Its waves are the most pronounced in the Asplenium range — it’s the variety that creates the most volume, texture, and movement in a compact rosette. If you want a fern that stands out, this is it.
Exposure & location
The Asplenium 'Campio' enjoys Partial shade with soft indirect light — it tolerates low light better than most ferns. Our light and humidity guide explains how to find the right balance.
- Exposure: Partial shade, soft indirect light — tolerates low light, avoids direct sun.
- Ideal: bathroom, office, bedroom, living room, or low-light room.
- Temperature: 18 to 24 °C, without sudden changes or drafts.
- Substrate: light, rich, and well-draining — potting soil for ferns or green plants with perlite.
The bathroom is its ideal location — the room’s natural humidity replicates its original habitat and its wavy fronds shine with a special glow there.
Watering & care
The Asplenium 'Campio' likes a substrate that is slightly moist at all times. Essential rule: never water directly into the center of the rosette — always water around the base. The finger test remains the most reliable method.
- Watering: regular — keep the substrate slightly moist without soaking.
- Frequency: 1 to 2 times per week in spring-summer, slightly reduced in winter.
- Drainage: essential — use a pot with drainage holes and well-draining substrate.
- Humidity: prefers 60 to 80% humidity — mist regularly or place near a humidifier.
- Fertilizer: once a month in spring-summer with a liquid fertilizer for green plants diluted by half.
The very wavy fronds of the Campio trap more dust than smooth varieties — a gentle pass with a soft brush once a month keeps their shine and optimizes photosynthesis.
Decor ideas & plant pairings
Its very wavy, bright green fronds create a unique volume and texture — an accent plant that naturally stands out as a focal point in any arrangement.
- In combination: pair it with a Spathiphyllum for an elegant air-purifying arrangement, or discover our Asplenium + Spathiphyllum + Epipremnum purifying trio.
- Ideal pot: a white ceramic decorative pot with relief — its sculpted texture resonates with the pronounced waviness of the fronds.
- Atmosphere: perfect as an accent plant in a bright bathroom or living room — its compact rosette and very wavy fronds create a naturally spectacular focal point.
Verdeia tips
- High humidity, watering at the base — regularly mist the fronds but always water around the base, never in the center of the rosette. Stagnant water in the heart quickly causes rot of the central bud — the only real mistake to avoid with this fern.
- Brown frond tips indicate air that is too dry — double the misting frequency or place the pot on a saucer of moist clay pebbles. During winter heating, dry air is the main enemy of the Asplenium Campio.
- Air-purifying and non-toxic — Asplenium absorbs formaldehyde and xylene present in indoor air, without posing any risk to cats, dogs, or children. Find our analysis on plants and air quality.
- New fronds emerge curled — they slowly unfold from the center of the rosette. Never touch them at this stage: they are extremely fragile and a shock can permanently deform the developing frond.
