🌸 Generous and long-lasting pink blooms • 🍃 Shiny dark green foliage • ☀️ Bright indirect light • 💧 Moderate watering • 📏 H35 cm | Pot Ø19 cm • ⚠️ Toxic to pets
The Begonia Betulia 'Candy', or Pink Begonia, is a compact flowering plant with a bushy habit. Its bright candy pink flowers, abundantly carried above shiny dark green foliage, create an immediate colorful contrast — and flowering can last several months with proper care.
Easy to care for, ideal for a living room, office, or bright balcony. Discover it in our Begonias collection and our indoor flowering plants selection. Note: toxic if ingested by pets.
Which Begonia variety to choose?
Three Begonias are available in our catalog — very different profiles:
- Begonia Betulia 'Candy' (this plant) — generous and long-lasting candy pink blooms, compact bushy habit H35 cm | Pot Ø19 cm. The most flowering and colorful.
- Begonia Maculata — spectacular white-spotted foliage on an olive green background, compact size H20 cm | Pot Ø12 cm. The most graphic and original.
- Begonia Maculata 'Wightii' — same spotted leaves as the Maculata, deep red underside, compact size. The most contrasting version.
The Betulia Candy is the only flowering variety in our catalog — if you want a plant that brings color through its flowers rather than its foliage, this is the one.
Exposure & location
The Begonia Betulia 'Candy' needs light to bloom generously — this is its main requirement. Too much shade and flowering gradually stops.
- Ideal exposure: bright indirect light — near an east- or west-facing window.
- Tolerates: light partial shade — but flowering will be less abundant.
- Avoid: direct afternoon sun that burns flowers and leaves.
- Temperature: 15–25 °C, without sudden changes or drafts.
- Soil: light, rich, and well-drained — universal potting mix with perlite.
If blooming slows or stops, the most common cause is almost always a lack of light. Move the plant closer to a window before changing watering or fertilizing.
Watering & care
- Watering: moderate — keep the soil slightly moist without ever soaking it.
- Frequency: about twice a week during blooming, reduced in winter.
- Technique: water directly into the soil without wetting the flowers — moisture on the petals promotes rot.
- Drainage: pot with drainage holes required, empty the saucer after watering.
- Humidity: prefers 50–60% ambient humidity — avoid misting the flowers.
- Fertilizer: diluted liquid fertilizer for flowering plants, every 2 weeks in spring and summer.
- Cleaning: gently remove faded flowers to encourage continuous new blooms.
Regularly removing faded flowers is the most effective way to extend blooming — each flower removed stimulates the production of new buds. Check out our new plant care guide to get off to a good start.
Decor ideas & plant combinations
The Begonia Betulia 'Candy' adds color where most green plants remain understated — its bright pink flowers create a cheerful and luminous focal point.
- Alone on a desk or shelf: in a white or powder pink ceramic pot, it instantly creates a bright and flowery atmosphere.
- In an arrangement: pair it with a Peperomia or a Pilea with green foliage to make its pink flowers stand out by contrast.
- On a bright balcony: its compact shape and long-lasting blooms make it an ideal plant to dress up a balcony or terrace protected from direct sunlight.
Its candy pink flowers contrast beautifully with dark pots and surfaces — concrete, slate, or black ceramic create a striking graphic effect.
Verdeia advice
- Remove faded flowers systematically — this is the number one action for continuous flowering. A faded flower left in place diverts the plant’s energy toward seed production instead of new buds.
- Never water the flowers directly — moisture on petals promotes gray mold (Botrytis), which can quickly infect the whole plant. Always water at the base, on the substrate.
- Fertilize regularly during flowering — such generous flowering consumes many nutrients. Without regular feeding, flowers become smaller and blooming will quickly decline.
- Reduce watering in winter — the Begonia enters partial dormancy. Keep substrate slightly moist but space out watering. Resume fertilizing when warmer weather returns.
- Protect from cold — below 12 °C, growth stops and stems may rot. Bring indoors before the first frosts if placed outside.
- ⚠️ Toxic to pets and humans — contains irritating calcium oxalates. Keep out of reach of cats, dogs, and young children. See our plants and pets guide for suitable alternatives.
